MBC help please

Hello, got this today:

Unfortunately with no instructions. I have searched and found the general concept of fitting but I do not know what the other aly thing with 3 lugs is for. would anyone know?

I have tried it, first with just the mbc and the old air tube blocked off and seemed to only go to halfway on the gauge. it used to be more...

then I put the small metal thing within the pipe going to the actuator and this made it better than it was but I took it all back off because I am not sure. I seem to end up with a spare nipple on the small metal thing.

Would really appreciate any advice. I know I need to be careful with one of these.

where the diagram says "vent to engine bay" I'v got mine going into the of the air intake by the air filter.
