I want a smoother ride from my S60

Hi all, seeing as Im keeping the S60 for at least another 2yrs, I want the ride to be smoother.

The front end doesnt feel brilliant over rough surfaces. There are no knocking noises at all, and the steering feels ok, so where should i start???

Will front wishbones be my first port of call?? John B has kindly offered me his "special" ones if he's got them in stock Will they make the car feel nicer to drive, or just make the handling better???

Have you made changes to your cars and do they ride better???
    Thankyou, Goodnight....much love

Pop over to Manchester one evening.

I've just changed the drop links, tie rods & track rod ends. New shockers 12mths ago.

    PowerFlexed 'bones, natch.

Have a go, you'll be impressed, I am.

So, what made the most difference John, the wishbones??? If you change the shockers 12 months ago, did THAT make the difference????

Tie rods and ends, mainly. No play anywhere but loose as bloody hell!

Take it over the Snake to Sheffield, that's aREAL test for your handling

If you want the front to feel nicer - a strut brace will make it feel much much more tied down (with less 'flex')

As for smoother ride - drop the rim size of your wheels an inch, will make a huge difference to the ride with no loss in dynamic performance.

Feeling nicer and better handling go hand in hand - you'll feel ok about feeling a few more bumps if it turns well, power-flexing means you'll feel loads more through the suspension though.

Weird thing is, i dont want a stiffer / sportier ride, i want the opposite. Being 42, Im not really bothered about cornering at 100mph anymore, I'd prefer a limo type of ride. Id like the Volvo to soak up the bumps better.

Next time in over in Manchester, I'll give you a shout John, OR, if we meet half way when ive got the cash for the wishbones, I'll let you take the S60 for a spin, so what you think

Smallest Rim Size you can manage will make the biggest difference in that case Get some 14"s and big fat tyres, will ride like a Roller

LOL! Id love to, but i dont want my car looking a bit spazzy do i

17's is the smallest im going. I tried 50 profiles, but it didnt make much difference and they rubbed pretty badly.

Oh well, wishbones first, along with track rod ends, then we'll see.

    Thankyou, Goodnight....much love

16"s will make a huge difference IMHO... so long as they clear your brakes.

Isn't it easier to change the wheels?

Or just try for a week or so on a swap?

    Just a thought...

Seriously... my 18's looked the bees (the ones on the banner) but I was happy on the inside when I went back to 17's - even if the Max power brigade doesn't think my car is cool anymore!

Get a cheap second 16" set - bet you'll keep em on if you try it for a week.

Cheers for the ideas chaps, but itd defeat the object by making my car look crap. I just thought someone might of made their car ride better with suspension bits. I'll replace some bits and post the results

16"s look fine (not as spangly as 18"s, but hey ) and (wait for it) it's a Volvo...

    Yes I have one too

Go with the suspension changes and let us know how you get on! My V70 P2 ride is terrible (17"s and Eibachs, but at least it corners) so I will be interested to hear.

get softer springs, simple as. Try holts springs in manchester, they can temper a spring to anything you want, if you know the rebound rates ( im sure someone on here will) then you can play with the temper to get softer springs.
