    2.4t gt- v-2.3 t t5

    Hi All,

    Just for interest sake, I have a 2.4 T GT 200BHP. (Engine B5244T7) convertable.

What gives the 2.3T the extra HP to make the 240BHP. ??

    and what makes it a T5. ???

I'm not hot on initials so things like MBC ect.
what do wastegates / dump valves do ??

I do not have any boost gauges in my car, so how could I find out what it has / should have, & could have.

This could make an interesting read.
    Cheers in advance everyone.
    Joe.

A T5 engine has a high pressure turbo where yours is a low pressure, an mbc is a manual boost controller and a dump valve is designed to reduce turbo lag and keep the turbo compressor spinning between gear changes, and it makes a nice sound when you lift your foot off the throttle

If by "New Shape" you mean, after 2006, then no Mine is a 2004 soft top,
Can I increase the boost on mine then, ?

    Fair enough,
I've not seen (as far as I know) a pre 2000 C70, so won't know the difference between the two,
So would I be right in saying, Either turn the boost up on mine or fit a bigger turbo would put mine up in the T5 range.

if you get the 2.4t remapped because of the small turbo it will be faster than a t5 mate in standard form .i had a 2.4 lpt 1997 193 bhp v70 and it pulled a 16.2 quater and that dropped to 15.2 after map

    Remap

Google Rica or BSR both do soft loader versions (means you can load it yourself) or talk to your Volvo Main Agent some are offering ECU upgrades now.

A remap should give around 230 hp from your engine

    Remap

I don't think just going to a HP Turbo is practical as the main engine ECU fuel pump and regulator plus injectors may all need to be changed. I stand to be corrected though? after all if you through enough money at a project you can achieve just about anything. (I have a friend who has a 1994 850 2.0 ltr N/a pushing close to 300 bhp at the flywheel. uses it for track days only. You could buy a great car for what he spent on that engine and he does all the building himself)
If you really are looking for T5 power then it may well be cheaper and less painful to look for a good C70 T5 and part ex your's for it.
Then go for the upgrades, ECU remap, T19, injectors, panel filter, 3" down pipe and exhaust and several other bits I have forgotten. Don't forget brakes and suspension!!
If you go that route the upgrades would I guess cost £2000 to £3000 on top of the car depending how you buy and get them fitted. The results are spectacular in a front wheel drive car and the stupid grin is there every time I drive the car.

Thank you MC, Thank you all,

As I said at the beginning of this thread, it was a bit of interest as to what the differences are, between my 2.4T and a 2.3T T5,

Plus I recently saw a 19g turbo going at a reasonable price on the VOC site.and wondered if that would suit.

But, Before I would even think about engine mods I would have to brace the car up, (cos she shakes better than Elvis under power, and feels like she could twist the night away..lol), bieng a convertable.

    Cheers all,
    Joe.

you can stick a 16t on it and then put t5 injectors in all a straight swop and get the car mapped up should be good for around 280 bhp fly
