Not sure when the later ABS unit was introduced. As for trim, I think this was the time when GLE was replaced with CD - shiny leather became matt, seat adjustment went electric on drivers side, and as above, went OBD (IMHO a retrograde step for those of us who enjoyed DIY resetting).
Just considering this logically however, whilst it is known (as in the case of my 1997 850) to be a 96 model on a 97 first registration, it is a bit odd to be a 96 model on a 95 plate - as far as I know, manufacturers don't tend to pre-release models!
KISS Rs
850R manual, Rica 310, IKEA fitted bathroom, H&C running water, Jetex 2.5", pipe rack, cap stand, Forge BOV, circular wheels with full 360 degree rotation, 302mm discs, IPD front and rear anti-roll bars, numerous shiny features, sub-atomic particle accelerator, VTOL capability ...Volvo With Attitude!!!
Also to be seen in a gold Honda CR-V these days...

mines a 96 model on an 'n' reg. another difference so I have been told is the cambelt change schedule is less frequent.
It used to be normal for manufactures to release the coming years model from as early as june, the same as caravans.
Volvo's model year does not run as per the calendar. I think it runs from October. My car is 1995 reg on an N but is a 1996 MY.
