    Lucky boy.

Idle speed is correct. Smooth as a baby's?

    Lucky, lucky boy . . .

Yup - very smooth. But having only ever owned petrol cars - normally idling around the 900-1,000rpm mark, I was just a little bit concerned about the diesel sitting at 700rpm.

Any weak points about the D5 engine I should look out for?

My S60 idles at EXACTLY 700 rpm too and the engines are fairly bomb proof, so dont worry at all

Now, intercoolers are a different matter after a remap

I want to, but I've got 3 months warranty with the car, so I'll keep it standard for 3 months just in case anything goes wrong.

Also - I've just had a brand new intercooler fitted on Tuesday. What's the problems with Rica's D5s and intercoolers?

Boost pressure on the D5 is around twice that of the standard T5.

    The intercooler is the same.

They usually last around 100k but you'll know when it has gone, you'll think the car should be painted yellow and have 'Ingersoll Rand' stencilled down the side

Hmmm. Interesting. So given that I've just had a brand new intercooler fitted within the last few days (My car's mileage is 103k), if I were to Rica my engine, how long am I likely to have my intercooler working correctly before it fails?

Nice, Jase. I'm assuming the D5 engine in the S80 is the exact same as the D5 in the S60?

Speaking of engines, here's a photo of mine all cleaned up yesterday

    That reminds me . . .

Must take a photo of mine to show the hole in the acoustic cover from the glow plug blowing out of #5 cylinder

The more I see of this car the more jealous I'm getting. Mine was NEVER that clean despite being a Volvo 'Approved Used Car', despite me working for the dealer I bought it from and despite being only 3 years old and less than 60k on the clock.

Maybe that's why that showroom now has plywood windows, if it hasn't actually been demolished yet.

No Bud. It was about 200 miles South of that in Oldham. Cameron knows which one

And the same engine as in my V70

I did a write up of my MTE remap here http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26128

    Still going strong

I'll probably be doing an intercooler change before it pops. There's some good info on the D5 tuning thread of T5D5 (also in the general engine tuning iirc). There is now the possibility of a drop in uprated replacement i/c rather than mucking about with the full FMIC option some people have gone for.

Same here - my S60 D5 2004 did 60K on the RICA sports tune with no issues. I had the car from approx 11K to 72K miles.

That is a good write up - out of all the posts I've read about it (not that I've ever sampled them of course) I'd have to say if i was getting a new remap I'd be erring towards MTE.

Thank-you sirs for the last two posts.

The same write up is also on T5D5 and VOC, being a member of both the other forums. My aim was to provide a totally independent view on my choices and results. I do hope others will benefit.
