Key remote problem

I have bought a 2 button key remote fron fleebay...looks exactly like mine.....put new batteries in....done the ignition thing on and off 5 times etc(loads of times,fingers now sore)but cannot get it to work...it was bought as working and can be heard giving a little beep on pressing the button but thats it.
Been to the local Volvo dealer and without even considering the question of how to re programme the remote in a different way I was told that....we dont use diagnostic..the fob is faulty can we order a new one for you.At which point I left the service department very dejected.

any help appreciated please.

I believe there are two different part numbers so 50/50 chance of a bargain, but dont forget when programing to SHUT ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS and bear in mind dealer cost is around £45 - £50 less discount from memory
