Question F430 Scuderia - 850R! Following the leader.

Had an unusual full beans opportunity to follow a Ferrari 430 Scuderia from the lights on a stretch of clear urban motorway up to the speed limit. Well, he was eager to give it some beans off the line and so I thought what the heck. No, not racing, following very briskly. I must say the R surprised me - of course the Ferrari is a very different and much more powerful car - but the car did much better than I thought it would. And BOTH kept within the limit - he must have been holding back quite a bit so he did not go though the limit - but it felt very satisfying nonetheless to know that I could have bought my R fifty times over for the price of one of those and could keep up at full tilt (mine, not his - that would be ludicrous).

But only my car could do it with eight sheets of plywood on the roof and twenty rubbish sacks on board.

The pleasures of estate car motoring.

Not condoning racing, speeding, or reckless driving - none of these were involved in the situation described.

Need to be cut down to size - should come to Avon.
    KISS Rs

850R manual, Rica 310, IKEA fitted bathroom, H&C running water, Jetex 2.5", pipe rack, cap stand, Forge BOV, circular wheels with full 360 degree rotation, 302mm discs, IPD front and rear anti-roll bars, numerous shiny features, sub-atomic particle accelerator, VTOL capability ...Volvo With Attitude!!!
Also to be seen in a gold Honda CR-V these days...

Bear in mind on the road an Aygo could keep up with you if you stuck to the limits I know this cause I had a banzai Aygo driver do exactly that down a B road when I was sticking to the limits.

Cars like the scud are essentially a waste of cash on the road, but on the circuit - you, me and most other people on the forum would left flopping around like a out of fashion tumbleweed by well driven scud.

personally I'd have a car where i could carry my stuff, and was at least semi-useable on the road - but then I guess if you've got a Scud, you'd probably have some other cars too.

Oh I know. But from a standing start I think it shows - as you rightly say - that supercars are a bit pointless unless you have a track. And all that worry about ownership. It made me feel pretty smug at the time. Oh Vanity, you shall be my downfall.

I watched a Ford capri chasing a Lamborghini Guilardo last week in the hills over Derbyshire, it was very comical to watch as the Capri wasn't keeping up at all, lol.

Shame can't see further down the road, as the ferrari looked like it was catching and going passed, still good though.
The guys at my local bmw independent know someone who has something similar and i was there when he came in once, very funny when he has to back out the garage and has to be pushed, because (obviously) he has no reverse! lol
