Do the S40's have the dyna-audio subs in the boot as well like the C70?

You could go to 320, which is the normal max. Depending on how good the software/hardware is it is possible to go to over 600. You have to remember though that even at 320 its still not at cd quality, which is uncompressed. Try 320, but remember at this level you'll be not far off halving your storage capacity from what you are currently using (196).

Btw, i'm not an expert in this. I'v known about mp3 bit rates and that standard mp3 sound quality isn't the best and also known a bit about sound systems, but i'v been reading a bit more into this in the last couple of weeks since i noticed that a cd that i had bought had a funny symbol on it that said super-audio underneath it and wanted to know what it meant, which has lead me to learn a bit more about other things. Some of which is quite interesting. lol

You guys need to spend more time looking at the road than a bit of album artwork the size of a matchbox.

    Pointless IMO!

isn't the Volvo system a different Ohm setting on the speakers, ie, 8ohms where normal is 4ohms? Does this not impact when using non oe headunits?
    (sorry, slightly off topic).

I couldnt comment on the technical side of that question matey as I dont know. but all I can say is the OEM stereo was good but the sound from the Alpine is even better so Im guessing that everything is ok or it would sound pants.....

Without going into the technicalities ill explain. If the volvo stereo system runs 8ohm speakers then the amplifier as it is optimised for the car will run at maximum volume when connected to 8 ohm speakers. If for instance the Volvo speakers are a combined 200W RMS and you had a stereo that runs is quoted to achieve 200W at 4 ohms then the stereo would not be able to produce 200w at 8 Ohms it would typically produce 100W. The figures vary dramatically but an 8 ohm speaker at 200w will normally require a 400W 4 Ohm amplifier (typically double the 8 ohm reading) to run at maximum volume. This is where its important as if these factors are not accounted for then you can either overwork your speakers or overwork your amplifier. If however you do drive around with a mini glastonbury in you car then your pretty safe in most scenarious.

Any more audio related questions/quieries like this fire away, apparently I was once a professional sound engineer...
Arguing is pointless....she may not be right but she's never wrong

Thanks for this info, I think V70ETS.

ST, might I ask, if it has not already been mentioned, as to why did you not go down the usa spec/imiv units so you can use your ipod?

Did your car come with the HU803 and the dolby pro logic system?

Actually whilst we are talking about HU, who makes the HU803/HU850?

If you wanted to use your ipod to play through the cars OE HU8**, then why did you not just buy a usa spec or iMiv module instead of forking out for a new Alpine HU with ipod connectivity?
