    Tyres (lol)

Shall I stick with 205/45s when I get my Titans refurbed or go up to 215/45s? There seems to be a wider choice of tyres available in 215 size...thinking about yoko paradas (if the budget allows!).

Any rubbing issues with fitting 215s (oooer missus)

    Cheers

I had 215/45-17's on the fridge mover, with no issues regarding rubbing/bodywork contact.... But I got my best 1/4 mile times with 16" columbas running 50 profile toyo proxes t1-s bald tyres at 23psi

Just as I thought mate- taller profile is always better on the 1/4.

I won't be buying separate sets of wheels just yet though, so will prob go for 215s if there are no rubbing issues. Thanks Paul

It's all about tyre wall flex. Too much and the rim spins inside the tyre, too little and it will bring on wheelspin easier.... you need some flex in the tyre wall o give you the spring off the line... the right wheel/tyre/pressure choice will knock almost a second off your time, if you had the wrong size on there to start with....

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's 215-40-17. Great tyres with excellent grip and the better option in size over 215-45-17.

Thanks Alan; what about the speedo though? Won't that be out by a bit with 40 profile tyres?

I can't really comment on this one, I run 195 / 50 / 15 tyres on my 850 and to be honest, I've had no issues going to a narrower tyre at all and I'm running higher boost than stock too

the speedo on most cars is out by an mph or two, at least.... Mine was 6mph out at 70mph, with 215/45-17's on....(ie reading 70mph on the clocks, but doing 64mph gps)

i'm going upto 225 on BT (225/45/16), the grip is alot better than the original width's. I've got 240 wide Yokohama slicks ready for the strip

40 is the aspect ratio which is basically a percentage calculation of the tyre width which if worked out on the 215 size is not much different to the 205-45 size. I think the rolling radius is very similar on the 215-40 compared to the 205-45. I have experienced no real change in speedo speeds compared with GPS speeds with before and after runs on different sizes.
