    Update on this ere thread...

Did the PCV last Thursday and the SOB still smokes. Seriously contemplating getting rid of said vehicle as I don't want to waste loads of cash chasing a problem, when I could be driving an AMG instead!!

Talk me out of it fellas

you won't be wasting money investing in a 19t instead of buying some German sh*te (which'll probably be an automatic)

assuming it is the turbo thats smoking & not the piston rings gone, in which case you buy a 2.5 block

i walked straight into your trap, but i couldn't resist the bait lol

i'd of thought the turbo has got to be the most likely thing now, how about getting a rebuild kit from fleabay & getting it checked out

I'll avoid the middle man and just get a bigger turbot mate- probably go for an hybrid 16T or similar. FFM has given me loads of interesting info on his ex (lol) sounds like it was a good spec (from Alanm) at a reasonable cost- the results were pretty good on the 1/4

Hahah love the AMG bit James, PMSL!!!

Like the idea of the 16T esp if Alan can do a bit of extra work to it for me-ie 19T internals; won't be able to do anything until the beginning next month atm due to being a tad skint because of a very demanding T-5R lol

Will have some dosh in June, which will go on the car, mods etc now that you, Pedro and my missus have talked me out of getting rid and buying Another Manky German

Hi Danny was the turbo you put on refurbed? both my 16t's smoked and that was on different engines, is the smoke clear on start up and until the car/oil warms up then turns blue? do you get a build up while sitting in traffic then a big cloud when you pull off?

hit the nail right on the head there mate, and i was told by tonyt5 when i bought it that it had been recon'd and have no reason to believe it hasn't.

Do a compression test on the engine mate that will tell you if its the piston rings or not but it sounds like the turbo smoking, if you just leave the car idleing and stand by the exhaust is there faintish blue smoke?.

Also take the air pipe off to the turbo and see if there is any play in the shaft.

I could well be wrong mate im only going by own experiances some clever person will be along im sure to explain the theories lol

Yes mate, till you pull away and get a blue cloud.
When I put it on it checked it and and there was very minimal play, nowhere near as much as the 15g it replaced anyway.

Compression test is a good idea, suppose it will cheaper than a new block plus fitting lol
