    Oh dear...

Had some smokey issues today which is pretty disappointing; also used half a litre of oil in just over 600 miles since I bought the car...hoping it's just a turbo return pipe problem and not an engine rebuild needed!
Obviously this wasn't visible when I looked at the car- maybe a bit coked up I guess...

    *sighs*

Will be looking into it more deeply over the next month or so. Not too bothered if it's the turbo as I'm planning on an 18T or 19T in June anyway, but will be a tad peeved if it's a rebuild required

Funny you should mention this, but when I followed you for a bit and you booted it, there was a puff of smoke - PCV I suspect

Quick update on this...I was being a divvy yesterday, checked the oil level again this morning when COLD and virtually none used

    *hangs head in shame*

I panicked a bit when I saw the smoke and jumped to conclusions before checking properly, which is

So can really only be PCV valve/ system at fault. Will duly be replaced.

Thanks for all the input fellas

hope you get it sorted, i've changed turbo and pcv and mine's still smoking when warmed up and idleing.

how does it compare to the v70 so far? apart from it's miles better looking

No smoke today so far Danny so it's looking good- I'll be surprised and really pi$$ed off it's the rings; it's be pretty unusual for a stock, under 100k miles car, but you never can tell I guess. We'll see...

There's no comparison to the V70 mate- the T5R is awesome. Handling is superior, it's just a lot more of a driver's car all round. Interior's a bit klunky but not bothered about that really. It's not as quick, obviously, as it's stock at the mo, but I reckon with the right mods it should run mid 13 second 1/4's which is good enough for me

    So far 10/10 mate

Ordered all the kit to do the PCV from local ovlov stealer, it's coming tmrw morning.
My local 'garagiste' wants over €200 to do it- thieving git, so going to attempt it myself as €200 buys a lot of wine

mine doesn't smoke everyday either, just occasionally i get the odd blue puff lol.

yours looks exactly how mine looked when i bought it(minus the spoiler).

what have you got planned for it? I went for the hlm 304 first but soon wanted more power so i'd say go straight down the 19t/kkk route.

For now, just HLM and a strut brace. Going to do the 302mm brake conversion, prob fit some Konis and the do IPD stage 3: 18T (or 19T), injectors, full zorst with race cat, custom MTE map. That'll be plenty to be getting on with.
If it turns out the rings are shot I'll rebuild the engine with non choccy rods and maybe go for a bit more power
(If I can afford it all of course)

Ah, that's jealousy for you! No seriously, I thought it was probably just that it had been sat around for a bit, but it was not trailing like a Red Arrow. Not a fun job but not the end of the world: mine needs doing too I think.
    Good luck!

Phil, I did a little bit of checking online and found the MOT history- it appears to have been smoking for the last three MOTs...the seller didn't mention that at all, yet he must have known. I'm somewhat concerned now and wondering what to do next!

Valve stem seals seem to be a favourite seal to die slowly. Carry out a PCV replacement first and give the car a good service with a clean to all components you can. Also replace your turbo return seal and gasket if leaking as even a small leak loses lots of oil when out on the road. After your service and tidy see how you go and take the next stpes from there.
