    Thumbs up My new baby!!

I raced back to UK last week to buy a T5R (96K on the clock) and offload my V70T5 on a mate.

Now I truly understand what a Volvo performance car should be like! This is just so different to V70; knocks the spots off it! Ok, mine was an auto, but wallowed round corners and felt heavy and cumbersome to drive. In comparison, the 855 T5-R is an animal, sticks to the road like the proverbial to a blanket, feels lighter and so much more responsive. I love it and it's totally standard...I did call HLM today though, so there's a bit of a mappy thing heading my way; ordered poly bushes to fit as many bits as possible and PM'd Rufe (via the FRF site) for a strut brace!
Also ordered a set of LHD lights (ebay.de) as I'll be registering the car here en France. Found out I'll pay tax of €170 and only once!!! Kewl

Couple of issues with it are the wheels are in dire need of a refurb, the traction control sensor is knacked and it has the wrong front bumper. Have a new front bumper that I'll get painted and fitted when I'm next back in the UK. Plan is to IPD it, so will be getting their stage 3 kit and uprating suspension and brakes too in the next few months.

I wasn't really sure what car I was going to buy, had pretty much set myself on getting a Merc W210 E55 AMG; have to admit I'm really really pleased I didn't now, as the T5R is absolutely bloody brilliant
Might be tempted towards an E55 in the future though lol

The pics were taken at one of the 5 "star" forts that surround Metz- incredible defensive position and huge.

All it needs is a VPCUK sticker now Justin?

very nice mate, about time you got a proper one with a clutch lol. Alot of people say the 850's are more aggressive than the S/V70's, good to know from someone who's had direct comparison between the both. I'm surprised you didn't swop over the bits from your V70

wasn't that one on ebay last year, i remember seeing one with the wrong bumper

I can also comment on the difference with the power delivery I think the newer they get the softer they are.

Off topic, but here are a few pics of what remains of the fort where I took the car pics.
Most of it is underground and covers an area of 47 hectares- it was built during the Franco- Prussian war (1870 ish) which was a particularly bloody and brutal conflict. Metz was captured and became part of Germany until the end of the First World War.

I know what you meen about the handling, although my s70s not too bad for a big front drive car, my last t4 would run rings round it. Everything about it (apart from the engine note!), seems to be relaxed, i'm also hoping that its faster than it "feels".

Just sorry you didn't get a run in mine - and me in yours: would have been a really interesting comparison. As Autocar say of the 850R, in their favourite cars of all time section, it is a macho drive (or nachos, if you get hungry) - and my one experience of driving an auto T5 is that it is totally different. I love the brutishness of the manual R - nothing like it. I think Clarkson described it as being the gentleman thug of motoring.
    KISS Rs

850R manual, Rica 310, IKEA fitted bathroom, H&C running water, Jetex 2.5", pipe rack, cap stand, Forge BOV, circular wheels with full 360 degree rotation, 302mm discs, IPD front and rear anti-roll bars, numerous shiny features, sub-atomic particle accelerator, VTOL capability ...Volvo With Attitude!!!
Also to be seen in a gold Honda CR-V these days...

So am I Phil! I'm hoping to get back over in June to get the wheels refurbed and the front bumper sorted, so hopefully see you then for a bit longer mate?
It's a brilliant drive and Clarkson was right...thuggishness is in abundance
