    Replacing 850T5 Vac Lines

I've decided that cos I have an air leak somewhere in the system, I'm going to replace the vac lines on the wagon. Just thought I'd ask if there was anything I should check or keep an eye out for when doing this?

I'm using turbo / vacuum flexible silicone hosing, in blue, so it should make the engine bay look nice and pretty too So keep an eye out for the photos when it's done

internally braided fuel line is the best thing to use mate, & i'd put the hose straight onto the ports to remove all the pesky rubber elbows if you can

Whats the correct i/d of the vac pipes? Plus how many are there to replace so far I've sussed:

    3 from the BCS
1 from the recirc valve(?) (the triangle plate on the side of the turbo which goes back to the inlet manifold)

    Anymore lurking about?

When replacing, does everyone replace the clips or just slip the hoses on as they are?

Thanks in advance...sorry to hi-jack the thread a little Crazy_C

Yea, getting rid of all the elbows, bloody pain in the arse they are!! lol

Will flexible silicone tubing be alright to use? I've replaced some of them already using the silicone tubing and it'd doing the job alright so far, made it better than it was but still leaking air out from somewhere, annoying stupid air leaks >_< gah!!

Oh, and no worries about the derailment, the derailment furby is alright by me I'm using 5mm internal diameter and that is going on perfectly so far.

This picture is what I'm working off of btw, so this may help - it's from a '98 S70 T5 but it's all pretty similar though

Oh my days, this is proving to be more hassle than anything else, what with trying to remove the old clips!!

I have done more pipes today, only got one more from the BCS (the one that goes right down the back of the motor) and then I think maybe a couple more pipes, and hopefully the problem will be solved. Well, I really hope so at least!!

Good work mate, keep us posed though eh?

I've got the BCS to turbo long run of pipe to do as it seems to be one of the few originals left.

At the weekend I pulled one pipe off the side of the turbo to inlet manifold run and it came off nice and easy, mainly because it snapped and left the cllip and crusty pipe in place down near the turbo! That was a bugga to get at!

    Good luck

Woooo!! All done, and I found the leak too (was one of the intercooler pipes, so that's taped up now LOL)

Going to replace the intercooler pipes (the flexible bits anyways) with more silicone tubing, well, when I get round to measuring the diameter required at least.

Makes a massive difference though replacing the vac lines. Highly recommend doing it to anyone who hasn't already. And I had a few too where the pipe snapped and left the clips on. I'm now a master at getting them off with a flat head screwdriver LOL

    The ones I've done are:
    - the 3 off the BCS
    - the one that goes to the side of the inlet manifold (that always breaks)
    - the one that goes to the front of the manifold on the right hand side as you look at it

and I feel that when I replace the intercooler pipes too, the improvement will be immense

No pics at the moment, but I'll get some up tomorrow though for y'all.

Though I finally found the air leak - was a small split in flexible section of the intercooler pipe (which I'm going to replace with more silicone piping too in time) which I've patched up and is doing well at the moment. Got a picture of that!! LOL

    Thumbs up

Just out of interest was the split age related or worn through by chaffing / rubbing on something?

    Good work Mate!

The split was most probably a combined issue of age and running higher boost than stock too.

Sorry about the lateness of the photos, only just got around to it. Bloody work been getting in the way!!

The awkward bugger of a vac line on the side of the manifold that always goes - I couldn't be arsed to route it how it is supposed to be, so just did it as the crow flies LOL

The rest of the vac lines I've replaced as you can see

And I've replaced the split pipe with this section of rubber hose. Very hard making a straightish piece of pipe fit where a curved pipe is meant to go, but I managed it!! LOL £15 for a 30cm long piece of pipe with a 45 degree bend in it, or £5 for a 1m long piece of pipe that is slightly flexible. I went for the cheap option haha
