How much power can my autobox take?

Anyone know how much my s70r autobox can take? Currently just has a panel filter and remap. I don't want to go stupid, just like to get to a true 300bhp. What mods would be needed to get to 300bhp also? I'm guessing that if i just put a bigger turbo on (an 18t off a manual for e.g) that although it would produce higher peak bhp, that it would also have more lag. I'm assuming that the 18t would need higher revs to spool up and as i'v got longer gearing (only 4 gears, reason for having a smaller turbo on an auto i guess?) it could actually make it slower in the real world? Any advice? Just thinking of posiible future mods.

    Cheers.

I think you'd need a 19T, sports downpipe, cat back exhaust, new injectors and a good tune for 300bhp genuine?

As for the Auto - probably depends how you drive it ?

BSR stage 3, BSR Stainless Exhaust, Vibratechnics gearbox Mount, OZ 17" Superturismo Alloys, Bell FMIC, LED Side lights, LED interior Lights, Tinted Windows, Eibach Sports Springs, K&N Air Intake, 3" Sports Cat and Downpipe, Debadged, EST Strut Brace, EST Grille, Black Moose Stickers, Bilstein B8 Dampers, Fully Polybushed, CC3 all round, CF Wingmirrors

no, but fitting a ME7 (or a better S60R) manifold while the turbo is off is a good idea. You will need a need downpipe to match the turbo

as i've said in other posts my 19t spools as quick (if not quicker) than my 15g with help from the larger throttle body & RIP kit. Not sure how they'd work on a auto tho

Tends not to be the outright hp that kills the autoboxes, (assuming regualarly changed fluid, and uprated cooler) but the torque in the lower range, and your driving style.

Asking the box to habitually change 1st-2nd-3rd under full power is not going to help it- i always feather the throttle slightly certainly between 1st and 2nd, if only to tame the wheelspin!

With a 19t and good mapping, you are going to have some serious grunt in the mid-range, i'd be more worried about bending the rods!

My car is pushing out around 360bhp at the moment through the standard autobox.

Its generally happy enough but I think the lag on my car has saved the box as the GT30 doesnt really get going until after 3000rpm.
    '96 855 T5 auto ...GT30 and everything uprated!

    power to autobox

The Autobox will take 350bhp + if the torque curve on your map is not too aggressive more if you fit a large auxillary cooler then frequently change the oil in the box

Cheers for the usefull info guys. Was hoping to stay away from the auto vs manuel debate! lol I did know of a e39 540 that was running around 100bhp more than standard with a normal autobox with an uprated cooler, so was wondering how strong the volvo 1s were. If i were to fit a 19t with s60r manifold, full exhaust with race cat (turbo back), RIP kit then mapped again, would i be needing uprated injectors and would the stock intercooler be upto the job? I'm hoping that this would definatly take me to the 300bhp mark? Because things are starting to get expensive lol, because i'd have to get the rest of the car to match as well i.e suspension sorted, and uprated oil cooler (already have brakes and strut brace)

i think you've got white injectors so think they should be alright, green or blues would be better because of the lower duty cycle & might be wise as your remapping anyway. Intercooler should be fine, think there good for about 400bhp i read

Cheers. If i do this this i would want to get it right and still be reliable. Some sort of progressive boost would make sense, as it pretty aggressive when it kicks down into 2nd and 1st as it is, would just like some more go in 3rd and 4th.
