    Maximum boost on stock internals?

Out of curiosity, what is the maximum boost I can run on stock internals? I'm currently running about 13psi of boost, and I have been thinking of sticking an uprated turbo on to go up to 16 or 17psi of boost, but I don't wanna blow anything up.

    Cheers

Not too sure, though i know if you go too high think might be about 19-20psi there is chance of bending the cod rods. I assume your engine is pre me7.

If i remember right as well, internals not as strong ?, though don't hold me on it

Yeah sorry, should of realized was 850, yeah you don't have the ME7 engine. In other words, your throttle body is controlled by a cable from accelerator pedal.

What sort of turbo you thinking of upgrading to, 19t ?. You will have the 15g turbo the now

I have a mate with a Garrett T25 turbo from a Nissan SR20DET engine (out the 200SX) laying about and was thinking about using that.

And yea, the throttle is controlled by a cable, none of this electronic crap!

Lol i have a brief recollection of someone fitting this before to t5 pre me7, can't mind the name of the engine arrghh lol.

i'm sure you would would need to upgrade con rods and pistons to get the max power you could out of it.

Guy at r.t mechanics is probably best person to talk too, can't mind his name though

You mean Russ? Yea, will probably give him a call at some point as I want a RICA tuning done at some point too, along with the bigger turbo

My aim is to eventually be running about 350hp

See told you not been on in a while, i know wobbly has the hybrid turbo on his me7 c70.

I drove this several times, last time was about 3-4 years ago when he was working in Inverness.

he currently runs 305bhp at 0.9 bar a think, this thing is crazy fast, so much power in front wheels was unbelievable.

This was on a custom rica map that he had got from hlm, i remember that well, good luck with target of 350bhp, going to take you a lot of cash to get there.

These cars tear up tyres as standard just think if you hit 350 lol

Well at the moment, with a total of £100 spent, I should be at about 240hp and 300ft.lb torque So with a rica map, that should help matters a bit, and with a higher power turbo on there too, that should really help matters.

And yea, I know about the tyres, and I'm actually running narrower tyres than stock too hehee Stock tyres are 205s, and I'm running on 195s at the moment (till I wear them out, then I'll be putting 205s on the steelies lol)

Its not about how much boost you run its about how it comes in,as ive read on the forums the weak point is from 2k rpm to 3.5k rpm so if you were to run a map with progressive boost then it should be ok.
I think the t25 would be alittle small for the power you want and would be a pain to fit aswell.
I remeber from my rover days and these max out around 260/270 bhp on a 2l engine.
Why not looking into a 18/19t there a straight fit and with the right map can give you good power.

T25 way too small for more than about 230hp.

As Rnash said, its not the level of boost, but where it it is produced in the rev range- it's the torque that bends the rods.

Fair nuff, it was a free turbo that I thought would be able to give some decent boost gains, but yea, I'll look for a 18/19T then. What were they on? I may be able to get one from the scrappy nice n cheap

Cheers for all the info guys, and I guess what I need to do is have a chat with Russ and see what his advice is and what he can do for me

19t only ever came on the limited edition 265bhp V70R so no chance of finding one in the scrappy i'm afraid

A Turbo Technics T25 will give about 350BHP on a T4 so should give close to the same on a T5 with supporting mods.

With a large comp housing, and T28 cut back wheel perhaps, certainly not a stock one.

Very sorry I should of put a Turbo Technics T28, I have not worked on any T25s. On the T4 I ran on a dyno with the T28 IIRC it made 335BHP with IATs over 80 degrees and subsequently AFRs in the 8s! With adaquate cooling 350BHP would not be hard.

You would not get anywhere near that power on a standard T5 with the same turbo.
