i had one on BT, wiring isn't 2 bad with about 4-5wires. Finding the right ignition wire to keep the engine running was the hardest part as there are a few that come off the same setting on the barrel. I believe any turbo timer unit will do as they all do the same job

brilliant,i was typing in 850 t5r turbo timer on ebay and there wasn't any coming up for it so i didn't know that you could just buy any one. do you need a special wiring harness for it or just find the wires? by the way that car of yours must be rapid and it looks a beast.
cheers,
Stuart

this is the one i had LINK. Quite a good little unit that even has an auto mode so would leave the engine running for longer the more you've been thrashing it
its a case of soldering into the factory loom i'm afraid mate
thanks for the comments on BT, can't wait to get her back on the road again
One question?
Why?
Are these turbo's failing by being cooked?
Are you blasting it full chat right to your door?
Or do you want one because you've read that the "save" your turbo from some strange death?
It's just that most cars do very well nicely thank you without one.
It may well invalidate your insurance, probably worth checking, or just wait till you have accident, and loss adjuster comes and has a good poke around car
I don't hammer my car. it just states in the manual that you're to leave them running for at least a minute to let the oil cool down in the turbo. i also had a mitsubishi pajero and used to switch the engine off straight away and it blew the turbo twice due to not letting it cool down before switching off.
cheers,
Stuart
any undeclared modification will invalidate your insurance, yes some may not like it anyway due to keeping the engine running while your not in the car but i never had any issues with it. They have safety features to override & turn the engine off if it thinks someone is trying to drive the car without the keys in
Is it not illegal to leave a car unattended with the engine running? I seem to recall people being dealt with by Plod for leaving their cars to heat up/de-ice whilst they go back inside for a cup of tea?
It's just that there really haven't been many issues with these cars and cooked turbos.
Just didn't want to see someone doing unescessary spending
when it says "let it idle" for a minute or so it usually means after having given it a bit of welly. Normally just pottering round the houses at the end of your journey is suficient to let the turbo cool down. (that is as long as you don't hit boost round the hoses)
'Quitting' is the correct offence. However, if the engine cuts when handbrake/pedals released it should be ok.
Would be an interesting test case...

It would seem judging by this article that they are illegal in the uk
