What should I do?? Advice please.

Been to see my mechanic about a whirring sound that started few days ago.

He reckons the turbo could be on the way out?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I am really pissed off. The car has never driven so well and smoothly for the past 6 months!

    So, what's my options?

    Turbo refurb??
    New second-hand turbo from scrappy?
    Get shot before she blows???

The car is a V70 W plate. 127k miles, average condition but I absolutely love it(!)
Does anyone know how much are these options (or if you have any other ideas) are these gonna cost me?

Is it worth while fixing it ???? I reckon realistically the cars worth £2k at best. Getting it fixed will cost over £1k (I'm guessing!!).

I've been onto a volvo dealership about getting a D5 with part ex. Waiting for his call at the moment.

My local mechanic sends the Turbos off to get serviced/repaired IIRC he said it's less than £200 all in (assuming its mostly service) including his time to take the turbo off the car.

TBH if it's needing a new compressor, then send it to get serviced by a good local indy. The work should be cheap & easy to get fixed.

I'm getting just a hint of random clicking under high end boost (5000-7000rpm) which I assume is tubo related.

There's no smoke, so I'm not overly worried just yet. Maybe a chore for next year.

Look in yellow pages for turbo specialists, or check the prefered dealer/indy section to sorce someone local who will be in the know.

you could send it to Owen Developments - they will port it, put a new compressor wheel in and generally upgrade the arse out of it - that with a remap could be quite tasty

Remember a repair is nearly always cheaper than a new car.

Badger - what happened when your dump valve went symptom wise? I'm waiting on mine getting delivered but I'm pretty the stock one is jammed closed.

you might need a custom remap with a hybridised turbo on.

I think owen developments charge around £700 to enhance/redo a turbo - if you google 'owen developments' that should get you their details.

That said - just getting it recon will prob be a lot cheaper.

They have a good reputation and have been recommended to me by a few people who know lots about turbos.

Yeah, the valve is sweet! Need to maybe put a spacer or two on the spring, but pretty awesome.

I sold my old Blitz DD on ebay on Thursday, subsequently I've bought new rear pads (had an advisory on my MOT in December) and a pair of ball-joints! (J it will happen! I will make it happen & soon!) Combined with finding the obvious rattle on the bottom of the engine, things are looking up!

Just need to do the Wishbones, the track rod ends & the headlight wiper. It's nearly there!
