depends if the rack is leaking from a pipe or througth the end of the rack.

buy a can of brake and clutch cleaner which will clean the rack very well. then look for leak. if its from a pipe check they are tight where they go into rack. if coming from there sometimes replacing the small o ring seal will fix it if it has one.

if its coming from within the rack so leaking from the end then rack needs replacing and i doubt an addative will cure it. if anything other than a pipe leak basically the rack needs changing for another.

never changed one myself. it may be fiddly but with enough time it can be done. not sure if subframe has to be dropped to aid removal as never done one.

someone on here will have the info on changing them

I had a leak from the nearside gator many moons ago & sourced a used rack
which a local garage fitted for me.

They charged me £100 with no receipt for the work & said that they would
not recommend doing the job on the drive with axle stands etc as it is a fiddly
job & any tugging & pulling around could result on the car landing on your head.

A ramp is needed to be safe.

I think the book suggested 2-3hrs work.

you have to drop the rear of the subframe to get it out as far as i know. you'd have to make sure your engine was well supported, from above preferably and make sure the car is really secure with no risk of it dropping on you like snoop said.

thanks for all your info ive been keeping an eye on the leak since putting lucas stop leak in and it seams to have slowed down to only a few drops, so it looks like its worked for the time being, hope so thanks again ged
