S60 rear shocks -converting Nivomats to non

I need a new rear shock for the MoT. Rufe has reliably informed me that, as usual, I have the really expensive bits on my car and it has Nivomats.
I could replace both shocks for less than one Nivo but what else is required?
I know on the v70s there were top mount issues.

IIRC you do need a new top-mount but these are I think obtainable. In the past I have used 'reclaimed' Nivomats (from the scrapper) and they have lasted well - and on an 855 (don't know about S70) are dead easy to change. Cost about £25 a piece I seem to recall from Salvo.

I have a pair of rear springs and shocks from my V70 if you're interested. No idea if they'll fit the S60 though. Nothing wrong with them, all my springs and shocks were removed when I fitted the Volvo sports suspension kit. They're not Nivos, standard...

    They may do.
Some list them as fitting both.

Do they have any numbers on? PM me a price.

    Cheers

I suppose the other question that needs asking is, is there any downside to fitting non-nivos?
I dont tow or habitually lug heavy stuff (cant really get big things in the boot anyway).

    No warning lights or anything?

You will need springs as well if you want to ditch the Nivomats.

Lesjofors list S60 and V70 springs as different part numbers, I suspect that if you take Cornclose's springs you may well end up with the rear of the car a little high . . .

Top mounts are reinforced for Nivos check the fittings.

I'll have to have a gander to see if there are any numbers on them. You can have them if they're any use to you. I only kept them for cases like this when someone needs them, so cover the postage/shipping (or collect) and they're yours.

I'll see if I can find part numbers tonight.

Shockers are no doubt - the same for both cars.

    Sorted then.

Give me box size, weight and where and when to collect and I will arrange a courier if you like, else you can give me a paypal addy and I can send some beer tokens over.

You have saved me quite a lot of pain.
    Many thanks

Right, found them in the garage, but no sign of any part numbers on the rears I think probably because there's a bit of surface rust where the paint has flaked off as you'd expect. A quick wire brush and coat of paint and they'd be almost as new. They compress and return nice and consistantly and there's no sign of leaks whatsoever.

I found the front struts too (Sachs) and all four springs, two of which are bigger than the other two, but I can't remember which are the fronts and which are the rears.

Of this lot, what is it you need?

Rears. Springs would be handy too. I couldn't tell you which springs are front and which are rear.
I am guessing it is the larger pair but as the V70 probably rides higher then the smaller might fit better - or not fit at all - but then that would ruin a perfectly good front strut set.
You can send all four springs and I can post back the ones that were wrong if you want or we can hold out for someone that knows

Just offer the springs to the front shocks. It is immediately obvious which spring is front and which is rear cos the spring fits into the 'pan' on the strut.

IIRC the rears are pigtailed at both ends and won't fit over the front struts.

EDIT: Just checked the catalogues - rears are definitely shorter.

Baj, when you get you shox check the top mount size against the units on the car, you may not need new top mounts. . .

Yeah, if you fit non Nivo shocks to the rear you can still keep the top mounts as they are reinforced for Nivos. It doesn't work the other way round.

I have a set of springs & Nivomats in the garage if you need any bits.

Ooh you bugger, throwing that in there at this stage

Are the Nivos on the V70 the same? Would you be wanting a simlar amount of beer tokens to Corny?

I am not being ungrateful to cornclose as his offer is suprememly generous however fintting one strut as a direct replacement would be much more pleasant a job than changing two.

From a catalogue POV fit both Nivos from Badger. Safest & easiest.

    They're just sitting there.

I've had them for the past 6-8months in a box.

They are heavy, but yours for the post or collection.

Baj, just let me know either way. Doesn't matter to me if you go with badger's, whatever is best and easiest for you.
