    Volvo v70r on a 97- ECU failure

    Guys

Will I need a brand new one from the dealers or can I drop in a second hand one: if the latter, does it need to be an R one and will it need any kind of coding? All answers welcome.

    Cheers

as long as it is not an me7 you can drop in any v70 i think as long as the ecu is for a manual or auto .i know you can do it on the 850s

How do you know whether it's an ME7?

    Hi,

Your car is 1997 so will be Motronic 4.4 not ME7.
You can use a secondhand ECU from an identical car.

    Regards,
    Hamish.

Thanks Hamish- very useful. I can therefore ignore the main dealers say that I'd have to spend £600+ getting a new one programmed. You don't happen to know who's got one for sale or what I should be looking to pay? I'm assuming from your message that I'll need an R one as opposed to a 2.3 20v one?

    Hi,

Does your car have a Manual or an Automatic Gearbox? Is it 2WD or 4WD?

    Regards,
    Hamish.

Prety sure this isn't correct. As yours is an 'R', then you need an ECU from another 'R' - the normal T5 one won't work.

That is what Hamish alluded to in his first post I think -

sorry yes you're right, the std T5's will have a 15g turbo and boost set at 9.5psi

so the ecu map would be incorrect for the 'R' turbo

would that mean that a 15g map would be underboosting the turbo on an 'R' type car ?
