As per Woking Rob, what is the price difference between these and an AP set - and what are the major differences. For example, the AP discs are 320mm - what discs does the Porsche set-up use, and does it require a custom made carrier?

You could always make it easier on yourself Judge and give me a pair, that way you've only got to fit one set, not two.

IIRC you can use the S60R discs with them which are 330mm?????(maybe), you do need custom carriers but I think they're available from someone in the states.

So what is the cost difference? 330mm discs and those callipers must give AP a run for the money - though I guess it is a case of diminishing returns.

At a rough guess the AP is in the region of £1500+ for the fronts only..
I am hoping to complete my modification for quite considerably less and have all four...

The only unforseen expense was a bit of import tax that put the calipers at £175 each.

So about £800 - 900 once discs, brackets and pads sorted for the front? (on the basis of being decent quality discs/pads/hoses)

You have to remember that I've bought both fronts and rears from a Cayman S, so it shouldn't reach anywhere near that for the fronts alone. I'm expecting my fronts to work out around £500-600.

    Front Calipers (£350)
    Braided hoses (£50)
    Discs (£120 - 150)
    Pads (Already supplied)

The rears are going to be a bit more as I thing I'm going to have to buy a few different brake discs to get a set that are compatible. I haven't even started to look at them yet..

It is certainly a mod I would consider at that price. I look forward to hearing the full story as it develops.

Interesting fact I've found out is that the all the internal drum brakes are all 177x25mm. This could mean that nearly all rear discs "could" fit to the hub atleast....

It looks to me,even though I haven't actually seen any discs yet, that a 308mm XC90 disc might be the best option for the rear which seem to match up with the specs of the Cayman discs:
    Rears - Vented only.
    Cayman : 299 x 24
    S60R : 330 x 28
    XC90 : 308 x 20mm

...or does anyone know what the minimum disc thickness of a S60R disc could be machined to???

In a Blue Peter style.... here's some I bought earlier!!!!...(if I could be bothered to get the camera out)

Thanks anyway, but I've already got all the calipers I need... I'm just thinking out loud, maybe someone might log on that has already done this and be able to warn me off doing something stupid...

You are probably well aware, but noticed a Swedish site yesterday that sells conversion carriers so you can use rear S60R callipers on 850. If you don't know about it, let me know and I will send you the link. That said, as you have the Cayman discs, this may not be much use.

    .... ah I think I'm having a Sunday mis-understanding session....

    I've got Calipers...
I've not bought Discs yet...as I said I've not actually seen any discs yet. I just doing research..

I'm looking at probably going to buy XC90 discs as they suit the deimensions better as they have to be able to fit over the 850 drum brakes..
