You are after a facelifted D5 with 5-speed manual box. Do not think the 6-speed was ever mated to "old" D5. Look for clear lights/lenses.

Facelifts started on 54 plated cars.

Lift the bonnet and look for a black engine cover = 163bhp D5. This can be tuned to approx 205bhp.

If engine cover is grey it will be a EuIV with either the 2.4D (163bhp) or "newer" D5 (185bhp) both of these will tune to approx 225bhp irrespective of 2.4D or D5. Both will return similar MPG and the 2.4D is NOT more economical.

The EuIV come with 6-speed manual boxes.

On Friday I helped a friend buy a 2005 05 Volvo S60 D5 SE, it has 5 gears and has a down turned exhaust. I am 100% certain it is a Euro3 163 engine. I thought all Euro4 engines have the exposed exhaust tip due to the DPF.

Due to my occupation I have access to DVLA derived vehicle info which is relevant to parts supply. This has the advantage that the reg which is current gets me the info so any talk of 'it's on a private plate' or 'it's not on the original reg' doesn't matter.

If you need an answer on a vehicle spec then simply PM me the reg. Most of the time at work I am logged in but obviously don't have the time to chat, so I'll get back to you ASAP.
