Yeah, the lights can be switched off... plod use this on all their cars.
Very disconcerting if you have the lights off in a white volvo...
You think I know **** nothing! But let me tell you I know **** all!
there is a little pin size button on the light switch (bottom left)that if depressed turns the DRL lights off. or there was on the 99 v70 i had. maybe yours has this and if so no need for trip to dealers to turn them off
because it just had to be done

Yeah, not a freature on the P2 modles, they need a computer adjustment at the stealers.

Our service department have to advise customers to check with their insurance company if we turn of the day running lights on cars that require software to do this.

From 2012, IIRC we won't have a choice.
All new cars and those capable will require day running lights . . .

do the bulbs blow quickly if there on alot?
I will say that the Volvo Long Life bulbs do last considerably longer than the standard versions. I don't know why they even list the standard ones as an option to be honest, we only ever sell the long life bulbs these days, when possible.

At the moment VOSPA only have it as "advice" but that may change, however most new cars have been fitted with them from the factory, so they won't be banned.
Use sense & only fit them if you understand the risks or possible issues.

it won't fail the MOT because of HID's with no self-leveling, as far as the MOT is concerned aslong as the lights have the correct pattern & all fully working they'll pass. Its VOSA issue about having HID's without the correct leveling & wash system, they do random roadside checks & sometimes present at larger police stops
Without headlamp cleaning and automatic levelling, fitting HIDs contravenes Construction and Use Regulations. The MOT test may not be bothered but it could get very expensive if VOSA prosecute for 'Driving otherwise in accordance' . . .
