Have you a New shape V70R and what do you think about it and have you had any problems. I am thinking about getting one. Seen one 2005 V70R 30k miles 1 owner looks the dogs.

Rumoured to be money pits compared to the T5s due to all the extra complexity (computers in the headlamps!!!) - you've got to be brave or rich to own one in my view.

I have not had mine long, so can't comment on the cost aspect *yet*, but I'm not blind to the fact they can produce Lotus-style bills if they go wrong. I have a parts/labour warranty and plan on extending it as far as posible, you should be able to get one with that mileage.
I am cautious about future bills because I have other performance cars which are potential money pits. However if the R was my only transport (and it does do EVERYTHING) I wouldn't care nearly so much. There is virtually nothing which will give you so much in a single package.
They are a very special experience every time you get in, it's like having a really good hifi in your home, you never tire of the effortless performance. Have you got any more details on the one you are looking at oris it a secret while you make your mind up?
I bought my 2003 V70R manual 4yrs ago from a main dealer with 30k on it, its now done 73k , drivers heated seat doesn't work anymore, replaced boost valve, fuel pressure reg, front discs & pads, rear pads, its got full service history but i don't bother with main dealers. Also needs a new alarm siren. I have all the codes read on the cheap & then order bits through FRF Volvo & fit everything myself. Over the 4yrs its been a very good car really & hasn't cost a lot to run but i am used to higher running costs as i run a M5 5.0l V8 , the V70R is the wifes car. I could deffo recomend buying a V70R.

2WD is fine in the dry... just relax and enjoy the hifi in the wet, and get there 5 minutes late. I don't like the idea of an expensive suspension computer and all that 4WD hardware.
Doesn't the 2.4 engine in the T5 have more innate strength and tuning potential than the 2.5 R engine anyway?
Great car if a fat bill for upkeep isn't going to wreck your cashflow.
I understand that it is a totally different block. Am I correct ? I am now on my 4th T5 and have never had any problems. I had a test drive when the new shape R came out. Was'nt very impressed with the cost or the interior colours. They never sold many in the UK I understand Volvo were not happy with the amount of warranty claims in the early years. I was very impressed with the drive. You could compare the quality and drive to my Jaguar S Type R, but after 3 years I got bored with that now back to Volvo. Funny why must be good cars.
