    Question Volvo's "latest" cost for ETM replacement...?

    I need another ETM replaced... the good old Magneti Marelli unit... what a surprise.

    Anyone know what Volvo's latest pricing / policy is on this? I was just quoted:

    ETM for 2001 V70 T5
    £468 total price (part, software, fitting, VAT)
    1.8h labour inc software update
    £136 for the part
    £who knows for the software

    I told them that I paid half that last time round, and they said “last time round?” I said “yes, I’ve had two of these before” and they went quiet...

    You found a Volvo main dealer that charges ~£55 per hour... wow!

    I think that's probably the main reason for the variation in cost.

    Where did you get it done?

    We came to an agreement on the labour charge because I was unhappy, plus i enjoy the negotiation!

    This work was down at Cambridge Volvo in Havant.

    You're telling me it takes 1.8 hours to unbolt a throttle pedal and bolt a new one in, then plug a laptop in and flash an ecu?

    And I find it amazing that for years we have had the same kind of module on the throttle flap (i'm guesing the throttle position sensor works more or less the same as one would on the pedal) and they have different service lives, and its not like the TPS has an easy life, with engine heat and vibration, etc.

    It's not the TPS, it's the ETM, which is under the inlet manifold.

    1.8h still seems a bit steep though. I could do it myself in that.

    Ah right, so the motor bit is the problem.

    So does the pedal module ever break?

    Rich got his done cheaper because they didn't put the radiator back properly. I think the chap doing it stopped after 1 hr instead of 1.8 hrs.

    As far as I remember the software is pennies. So that must be a stonking hourly rate to get to £468 all in!

    That's too much Al...i only paid £280 for my new ETM on my '99 V70R and that included the part. It's all pretty much the same stuff that's gotta come off. Which dealer m8?

    get prices of rufe for part, and ask garage cost for software upload, and just fit the bit yourself, and get car recovered to dealer, from 1/2 a mile from home when you have some free time (RAC ain't gonna be able to fix at side of road are they) or drive in limp mode to garage, have you asked Braydons in Harlow?

    My "free clean" was preformed in 2008... The stealers forgot to re tighten the IC top pipe hose.

    Got about 400 yards, gave it some beans & heard a loud POP.

    Rev the t*ts off it before you leave the forecourt, that way the RAC will not be making two trips!

    Spoke to Stu today about this and he said the dealer price is correct. The reason for the 1.8 hours is because on the late R's 03- the ETM wiring is routed behind the Starter motor rather than infront like on my '99 V70R. However i know your bringing the car to him anyway so it doesn't matter. It's also a little bit harder to do as the engine is tilted back more.
