My V70 Creaking/Squeaking Dash Sorted At Last!

Well after over a year of putting up with my creaky dashboard and after numerous unsuccessful fixes ranging from silicone spray to the old business card wedged between the dash and screen, I had finally had enough as it was driving me up the wall!

I decided to investigate further and remove the dash completely to have a look at what could be causing the racket.

In typical well-engineered Volvo fashion, the dash really is quite straightforward to remove with just one big yellow multiplug to electrically disconnect the whole thing.

The four 10mm bolts that secure the dashboard to the bulkhead are located under the black plastic wiper cover accessed from under the bonnet, as shown by some crude looking big red arrows in the pics!

Once the dash was removed, I could clearly see what the problem was.
Two out of the four mounting points on the back of the dash had broken allowing the whole thing to move and creak.

Anyway, I used Araldite rapid to repair the broken mounts, made a brew and set about putting it all back together.

After many hours, every single bolt, screw and clip went back where it came from, I held my breath and took it on a test drive.

Ahhhhhh complete silence, not a squeak or rattle to be heard, it totally transforms the drive of the car, for me at least as I had got so sick of the constant squeaks and creaks!

So if your dash creaks and squeaks I can't recommend this fix enough, it is a time consuming job but it's not rocket science and well worth the effort.
