V70 awd 1997

Hi Chaps looking at a 169K V70 AWD and was wondering How to Check the AWD system AWD is attractive as occassionally launch my ski boat on slippery Slipways and its a V8 inboard so its heavy.
IF I have a problem with The AWD can they be reconditioned / rebuilt??
If so at what cost.
Same question about the Auto Gearboxes apart from the need to Fuid Change are they expensive to rebuild ( did on on my merc and it was £1000 but over 5years of heavy Towing not bad value.

How prone are these cars to Head gasket Failure ? ( car in Question is 2.435) on mercs once you get to 1993 -1994 cars it is usually imminent just on the basis of Age .
