    Tailgate Gas Struts

2 x new ones from RUFE @ Volvo for the 855 are £80! - Ouch.

There are other companies churning them out (not OE of course) for £14 each.

Anyone had any experience of these?

    Or this idea....

    £80 seems steep!

EuroCarParts do the OEM Boge struts for about £16+VAT each when they're in stock - might work out cheaper than PFV if you can pick them up locally.

    Thanks for the advice RT.

I have ones from PFV on their way and have printed off the howto from someone on here who's name escapes me.

    Seems pretty straightforward...

Did mine last night using PFV ones, work a treat, just be careful when removing the plastic trims as I managed to crack one just above where the load cover hooks in which is a pain as the load cover will no longer stay across! ho hum, visit to the scrap yard when the snow has thawed a bit!

Ditto Mattp,I too used parts for Volvo online.Quick delivery and seem to work well even in the cold.Little tip, warm the interior of the car before removing the liners, makes the plastic less brittle.Good luck with the fix.

I have eurocarparts (or GSF I can't remember) ones fitted, fitted a couple of years ago, and still going strong. They were around £30 for the pair.

And heres a guide to replaceing them

Sorry to highjack the thread somewhat but the NS bootlid strut has become detached from the fixing point inside the car on my 96 854.

I have found a "how to "guide but was wondering is it best, as per shock absorbers, to replace both sides?

Has anyone else had much experience of these going?

    Regards to all.

    I would do both.

A crack on the head or your spine from the tailgate is very unnecessary! Or a childs hands / fingers....

I would reaffix your strut initially and check the operation of the tailgate first.

If its sagging down then replace both.

    Is so damn easy.

    Cheers

I went to GSF to get some struts just after my previous post, only to find they were out of stock nationwide. Ditto Eurocarparts, so I ordered them from PFV in the end - but two weeks on and I'm still waiting for them - they're waiting for a new delivery from Sweden... I guess everyone is changing their tailgate struts!

I think its the cold weather that's finished any weaker struts off...

Got mine from PFV - lucky me!
