    Death of My Baby

Hi, this is whats left of my baby after hitting a patch of black ice last night and going backwards into a ditch, I wasn't going fast (for a change) as i knew it was slippery, all the roads where clear upto that point and as it slid i thought i'd caught it but it happened so fast and was too far gone.
Everyone was ok with only my bro's wife getting a few cuts on here hands from the boot lid going through the back window and getting showered in glass.

I have two options, buy another one with a knackered engine and swap the parts over or sell all the bits, unless anyone wants to buy it for a £1000.00 and use all the bits on there car, and theres alot of bits after two years of spending on her.

I guess were all lucky it was a Volvo and not a small car.

Needless to say it won't buff out.

Whats left of my beautiful exhaust.

    In her former glory.

Its a shame for her to end like this but at least were all ok and a warning to everyone, please watch the roads and take it easy over christmas as i would hate this to happen to anyone of you.

I still hope its ok for me to come along on the summer outing even if i'm not in a Volvo.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the members.

Been there - done that - but at least you are ok. As my brother (RN) said at the time I flew my black one upside down in a field - "Any landing you can walk away from is a good one".

I stripped and sold many of the parts - which along with a most generous whip round from VPCUK - enabled me to get on and buy the Silver one.

Also to say, glad you and family are okay, which is all that matters really.

I daresay, despite the pretty severe damage to the floor pan, that all the doors opened as normal when you needed them to, which goes to show these old girls are solid busses!

Good to hear everyone was ok.

One of my friends wrote off another car in his old 440 2.0.

His (my friends) car ran into the back of the victim when he stamped on his brakes on the motorway to avoid a fox or something (sounded dubious on the victims part).

His 440 only suffered a bent bumper plate (behind the plastics) which was bent back into shape. The victims car (as he claimed to be) had almost no rear left on his car (I think it was a nissan) which goes to show that they're almost too tough!

Glad to hear there were no major injuries and you're all okay. It's sad to see your baby in such a state, but she did her job and protected you all.

It's not the sort of present you want at this time of year, but I'm sure you will find a replacement before long.

The only problem is, you knew what needed to be done with her and what had been done.

Now you have to start again with a car you don't know, is there a chance the insurance will pay out enough for you to get another Volvo?

I know what the roads were like yesterday after our 434 mile round trip.

Have a Merry Christmas and lets hope a Happy New Year to you and yours.

sorry to hear about your car mate, the same thing happened to me this time last year in my nitrous'd aerodeck vti and i was gutted to say the least.
I realised mine and my family's safety and comfort was most important which was why i bought the volvo. Not because its a friggin flying machine that gives me adrenalin rushes every time i drive it.

if i remember rightly was your car not the fastest of the day at york back in spring?

anyway sorry again, like to wish you and your family all the best.
