I was quite concerned about that also it seem doubling the pick up seal is a good idea which is what I did with myne I also put the original oil pump back in and didnt bother with a new one after all the problems as they seem to be cheeply made

im not 100% sure but i know its a problem with oil pressure when using the power. im pretty sure Alan (barnsley bll) had a simalar problem on his engine build.

best off speaking to Tim as he knows the problem and how to resolve it

the oil pump came as part of the engine - it was supposedly new & it looked new at the time.

Perhaps a lighter crank would be suitable.

If it was a new pump, I would be very concerned, there is definitely an issue with the new Volvo pumps. Have a chat with Tim.

I never had these problems with the v70 2.5t .i would use your spare crank and get the engine sorted with the oil pump in the other engine if its a good one .

If the pump failed then yes the top end would rattle its tits off.but I have never heard of a Volvo pump failing to be honest .but if peeps are saying the new pumps are rubbish then I would put the pump out of the engine .but check it for play first of course .once this engine has been built the last thing dave needs is a inferior pump in there.

Perhaps I wasn't clear - the donor engine came off ebay - sold as it was with new cam belt & new oil pump.

Motorcast in Wem used that engine as the starting point - it was completely reworked from top to bottom.

The oil pump was part of the original package I gave to Motorcast.

im wary of hearsay on forum. best taking some things with a pinch of salt. a lot of coments get made on forums by people who have no knolodge or experience with cars then then they read a few threads and then try to offer advise on what theyve read. ill only offer advise on something i have first hand experience of.

Thats why i said to Dave too speak to the man that knows about these things, as far as i can see its 1 of 2 things oil starvation causing excess heat in the shell or simply a bad cast shell.
