I am a slow mechanic because when I rush things, stuff breaks. I've stripped off the inlet manifold taken most of the pipework off, drained the fluids.
Plugs are giving nothing away - they all looked fine (only 3 days old). I rotated the engine on the crank pulley by hand - couldn't really tell much. All I heard was a slight slurping noise which I can only assume is a lifter?
Inlet valves all move up & down as expected.
I got the turbo off last night & booked it for inspection at Turbo Dynamics - I am pleased that there is no apparent damage but I remain unhappy with the thrust & cyclical play in the main shaft. Perhaps nothing - maybe o
overreacting but with a turbo costing that much seems only sensible. Didn't enjoy the drenching when I took the water return off.
Gonna whip the exhaust manifold off later.
Oh yeah - dropped my long forged hex 14mm socket I need to take the head bolts off - it vanished & I have searched aimlessly for it. Annoying is not the word. It fell down by the auxiliary belt - there's nothing below but can I find the blighter??! Can I vpcuk.

what lifter have you fitted. are they solid or hydralic
s60 2.4 t5 eibach springs,up rated rear anti roll bar, poly bushed wishbones, poly lower engine mount, fmic, bmc air filter, 3" decat, 2.5" stainless exhaust, hlm remap 328bhp,
TBH I am not certain - they were what ever was in the donor s60 engine - head was completely overhauled.
Think I may yet put the fuel pump fuse & turn it over on the starter to see if I can work it out before stripping it out further.

Bearing in mind there's no oil in the engine other than what's normally left behind after a drain down - this is what I hear...
It's quite noisy so I will run a compression test tomorrow & then at least I can discount the dropped valve theory for good.

Hmm still not 100% sure.
2 compression tests per cylinder (values in bar). Cylinder 1 to me has always been the one closest to the cambelt
Cylinder 1 is a little down relative to 3, 4 & 5
Most unhappy with 2
I don't think I have a dropped valve because if I did - I'd have no compression at right?

just listened to the video. dosnt sound healthy at all. dont no what to make of the compression test. have you had the rocker cover off to see what the cams are like. anything loose or broke around that area.

With the plugs removed have you had a look at the top of the pistons it sounds like some things hitting have a look with a torch to see for marks etc
Have you tried all the cylinders at TDC or just on there way back down,to see if there is any play in the rod bearings by pushing the piston down one at a time,as this would lower the compression as well.

Sorry dude but gunner have to shoot you down lol deff not a burnt or broken valve as it would only be running on 4 clyinders and the clyinder with burt or broken valve would not have any compresion by the sounds of it the noise it set in time so must be with rotation my geuss either piston related or depending on where the knocking is coming from it could be crank sliped bearing etc after inspecting the piston through plug hole if nothing is found use a long screw driver with solid handle to see if the knocking is coming from lower down.

I did get this a week or to ago,I can post it to you if you think it would be any help. It does have a mirror that can be fitted in the end to look back on its self.

2005 (163) V70 D5 SE Premium Pack 130k. 10" sub/Fli amp with Grom audio kit. Shark stage 1 with EGR delete and 320mm discs. Enjoying the comfort and (relative) economy.
The only way to find out what is wrong with the engine is take the head off .then you can see if it is a valve issue or a spun bearing etc .we will find out the weekend when the engine is dismantled and is investigated more clearly .just hoping its nothing serous than the ideas that peeps have come up with .
Thanks for your feedback all & thanks for the offer of tools to look inside.
I've ordered the locking tools from the bay of e & will hope to have a proper diagnosis soon.
