I was feeling a bit down about it all so I thought I spend 30 minutes faffing around to see if I could get the DP & the ARB to stop loving each other quite so much. Maybe muggins 'ere didn't tighten up the V-band clamp but it was possible just by pushing upwards to get the 2 separated. I then tightened the V-band up TAF

I wiggled & jiggled the flexi & cat as much as possible & it didn't fall down as it had before.

Just in case I strapped a piece of water pipe which I cut down the side in a spiral (like the inner tube of a loo roll) to let it sit on the ARB and cable-tied it on (I learned from the master).

I went for a short run and you'll never guess what - only the "gearbox" clunk has vanished. I will confirm tomorrow but perhaps after all the heartache this gearbox is still OK??? WTF!! Usually clunks coming from my stupid top mounts (its the only thing left I haven't changed yet) but other than that it was pretty silent.

I can't tell you how relieved I am. If this gets the all clear then I will dyno Friday if I can get a slot to check my AFRs and Sunday shakedown at Avon.

Its not all shaken down yet & its a long way off the final finished product but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Going to send a letter to Rome to get Andy beatified LOL

Spent my day trying to fix a few things. The top mounts have been bothering me for a while - so I bought some IPD H/D ones from PFV. OS came apart quite easily and I borrowed a set of spring clamps from next door. Without my snap-on rattle gun I think this would have been much more challenging. So that went together quite nicely. Indeed there was a crack almost all the way around the central bush. The NS was a different story. The top bolt in the hub sheered in half. Also found that the top bearing was completely FUBAR. So I gave up at that point. Need to order a new seatbelt assembly, top mount bearing and knuckle bolt. This car's still putting up a fight. Condition of the bilsteins is fair - not as stiff as I would prefer. They were new in Aug 2009. I may have to save up and get some more/or something different. I have managed to fix my flaky OS HID and hidden the ballast inside the ECU box.

Phoned Bilstein - they are chasing the new camber bolt down. I just used a standard one for now. Got a new top mount bearing from Eurocar parts for 30 quid.

Rocking the car side to side - still can't get rid of the clunking from the suspension. Guess I'll have to look at the ARB bushes, again.

New seatbelt will be a week travelling by road from Sweden (can't be flown because it has "explosives"). Given I plan to keep the car for the foreseable future & the youngest 2nd hand part will be 12 years old I think I can justify the 250 quid it cost.

Just a thought, have you checked the subframe bushes, or changed them, as I'm guessing it's been off a few times. If you want a really clonky car fit coilovers, as my ali top spring cups knock against the top mounts constantly.

I just hope they're longer lasting than most IPD stuff. I imported the repair kit (new bushes) from IPD USA maybe 3 years ago & I am convinced that this is where the remaining clunk is coming from.

Well - she's only gone and bloody done it.

I finished late on Weds (about 2:30 am) sorting out the last few pieces on the Blitz SBC & I have a tacho signal I can use, but in the end I didn't really need it, although I may look to utilise it more fully later. More of that in a bit.

Firstly I built this out of SS cable ties & then attached the aluminium honeycomb (imported from the US in the end, via ebay) into the 4 inch MAF housing.

I was very determined to be 100% sure there was no risk of it being ingested, so it is glued, pop riveted it. I am chuffed with my own ingenuity as SS cable ties offer no air resistance but there is no way that the honeycomb can buckle. Sadly the glue was complete pain to use so was not as neat as I would have liked.

    Workboots fricasse?

Anyway more important than the new air straightener/ MAF screen was the dyno result. Well finally after 8 years of development (2.5 on the GTX turbo) she made 404 bhp crank (376 bhp with 500Nm @wheels) - running 1.7 bar. Peak IAT was 49 degrees. Ambient 20 degrees.
Started on just actuator pressure which peaked at 1.5 without any input from the Blitz SBC.
We tried 1.75 bar but it made less power. It is mind-bendingly fast. Just how well this will translate on the drag strip is anyones guess, but I am very pleased. Curve is a good shape. Holds AFR about 12.5 without any knock.

Hamish some months ago said that if my car made 400 he'd eat his workboots. Today I said "how would you like those done sir?". Apparently bar the RS Focus - its the most powerful T5 that's ever run on that dyno. We did about 10 runs but this is the best. Sorry but the WINPEP7 on my machine doesn't show crank figs.
