When pushing an engine this hard I know that reliability is going to be compromised & I accept that. Coming back last night from Brum I "tickled" the engine a couple of times. Sods law just as I was getting back into Telford itself, when I heard a noise. It was late & the exhaust is noisy so I left it without really looking into the problem. Today I turned it over & discovered exhaust manifold has a blowing noise. Car sounds like a tractor. I've noticed there is a small drop in the coolant level.

Either I have a cracked manifold or its blown out the gasket. I hope its nothing worse.

However there is not a cat in hell's chance of making York Raceway - so I am to say the least extremely miffed. So from the elation of the dyno runs last week to the pits of despair. Fluids will need to be drained down, turbo off (cos there's no room down the back) - manifold off & just pray that it is only the gasket that's gone. I don't know if you'd get a blowing noise from a cracked head but lets not even go there.

I have tried with help from my NDN mechanic friend to nip the bolts up. It made the blow less significant but its not right & there's no point in pushing it.

Just a shame that as it's so tight in the engine bay that you have to remove a fair bit to get to anything.

I have my suspicions but I think the sequence of events is as follows. On Wednesday evening I change 2 of the hanger rubbers for the exhaust in an attempt to stop it clunking around.
Smiffy gave me the idea & I ran with it.

They weren't the best fit, but they did stop the exhaust moving about laterally and vertically. However I noticed today that one had fallen off the hanger underneath. its down to the material. I should have strapped them in place, as unlike the rubber ones they don't stretch (but that's the whole point).
The extra weight of the exhaust & all that jazz may have just been the straw that broke the camels back. Well there's no point grumbling about it now - what's done is done.

Perhaps I should have left it as was. just sometimes need to stop messin' - FFS.

Hopefully the gasket will sort it, though not sure why it would lose water, unless there was still some air in the system when you put it back together, and it's now found its way out.

Could be that the manifold has warped or lifted.

Mine generated enough heat to boil the brake and clutch fluid and melted the plastic pipe going into the servo.
