    Smile At last...

Some of you will know that I've been quietly working away on my project T4... the third one I've owned. The aim has been to turn a fast road car into a faster road car, but without compromising much in the way of driveability or practicality. For example, I kept the aircon this time

Over the last year and a half, I've done pretty much everything that can be done to improve the car's performance (bar making it 4wd... ) - engine / turbo, intake / exhaust, suspension / handling, brakes, etc - but I've held off discussing the car on here until it's "finished". It looks like "finished" will be tomorrow!

Until now it's been running a BSR Stage 3 map, but I've never been fully happy with an off-the-shelf map on a very custom build (it runs excessively rich in places and lean in others, for a start). So I'm off to RICA in the Netherlands tonight, to let them have a go at custom-mapping it (you'll find that there are very few people around who can custom-map an EMS2000 ECU). I'm hoping tomorrow that I'll get dyno results for the BSR tune, and then one for a directly-comparable (and hopefully improved) RICA custom tune. It should be an interesting day!

I'll update you guys when I have some results. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

Conveniently I'm working at Schipol airport tomorrow, so I'm not actually having to go far out of my way really (would have been quicker to fly though!) It took about half an hour to get from the ferry to RICA's facility in Wateringen and that was including the time it took me to get lost...

Slight annoyance at one of my recently-fitted HIDs failing before getting on the ferry - negated upon arrival in Wateringen by finding a colossal poster of yellow "Mugen" S2000... the exact same car that I drive when I'm not in the S40! Nice to have them both in the same room

Also noticed a couple of other interesting vehicles sitting around...

Now it's time for some dyno runs, I will post up with news when I have it.

You can give me a lift if you like (so cheeky - how can you turn me down LOL).

So whats max revs, AFAIK 9500 is acheiveable on a well built T4 block making about 400BHP

You are exactly 14.2Km from me. A hop skip and a jump up the A4 and you are there!

Actually it's less than 10K on the back roads

We'll probably play it conservative at 8k or so, my rev counter doesn't go to 9.5 anyway . It mainly depends on the turbo efficiency, the guys will be looking at that once we've got the mid-range sorted out nicely. My priority is the 3-5.5k range for now.

The turbo is a 16T for driveability reasons (got rid of the Garrett) so we won't get anywhere near 400. However we've spent some effort on the engine, crankshaft, head, etc and it revs nicely and freely... so let's see.

Interesting Fact of the Day, #1: my "BSR Stage 3" map is apparently identical to a "RICA Stage 1" map.

I'm not reading too much into that, but it did amuse me - Volvo tuning is a small world.

We couldn't dyno the car with that map on, as it was apparently running too lean. So now the guys are writing the first cut of the custom map... and I'm trying to find where I left my new set of injectors
