TBH the OEM part is a flimsy & very small part (about the size of a quids worth of 10p's stacked) the IPD vesion is more than double this size & can last much longer.

The price difference is minimal as it is an uprated part.

I'd keep the car! At least until the warranty is up.

Well its having the TCV fitted as I type this and I should be able to pick the car up later on as I need the car tomorrow. And besides there is no volvo specialist that I know of who could fit this uprated part.

The "part" has 3 hoses attached to it & one electrical plug.

It's as hard as fitting new wiper blades.

Well I got my car back and all is fine *touches wood* and I got my 10% VOC discount also

My friend and I spoke last night on the phone and I was telling hum about the problems I was having with my car and we started talking about replacement cars for me and he said that a Volvo is 'my' type of car. I was not sure what to make of that when he said it.

Is it common to have so many problems with the R's like I have. Where's Justin - forum owner - perhaps he can answer that one?

Cool beans. Will let you all know. 'If' I was to sell, finding a suitable replacement is going to be hard.

I too have had this problem on my S60R, when I got the car in march 08, I booked it in for all the fluids to be changed and the bushes and TCV was also replaced, after that it ran fine, and now its runs great.

About 3 months ago I was pulling out of a junction I put my foot down, not hard just enough to pull quickly, but it cut power for a second and I thought oh dear, what is that. So now I have bougt a IPD HD TCV so will give it a go in the new year and see how it goes, alternatively, thwey have issues with feul pressure sensors as well, so I think with these cars its always goind to be a suck it and see, which is unfortunate.

As for shocks, I better save up!

Now that you have replave the Turbo Contro Valve, post up if it still plays up. As I think this is a bad problem for them to have.

I hope it has sorted out the problem.

Is it common to have so many problems with an S60R / V70R? YES. That's why I haven't bought one!!!

I know of a couple of people with them and they are always in, out, in, out, in, out of garages having very expensive fixes done.

I'm steering clear for now... just a shame that they have dropped the "R" line so there won't be any good ones in the future either!

I don't know whether it is the cold weather or the the TCV, but my car is like a rocket now. It seems to holds its boost higher up for longer. I am sort of a happy Volvo driver.

    It never lasts long tho...

I had a new strut top mount fitted, only to find out the strut top mount bearing was goosed. £80 for the part on that too. (added to the £45 for the mount)

    PITA!

But I still love the car, to spite all it's little issues that it throws out.

It'll be the TCV/BCS, although the cold will have a smaller effect. Mine was the same after I fitted the new TCV/BCS. The car was just a whole lot more punchy and responsive.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your car Darren, lets hope you have a better run of good luck with it in the new year. Its a fantastic car that should just be driven and not in and out of the workshops.

You could ask Rufe for a quote on a MAF it's a costly item and from past experience after market non Volvo ones are not reliable.
“If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as the souls who live under tyranny.” Thomas Jefferson (1778)

Did you know the EU says that you can't claim that drinking water prevents dehydration. So now you know for sure what many of have known for years that the EU is run by a bunch of nutters.

Has anybody inspected any of these failed turbo control valves? Do they run dirty from the intake manifold? Will we have a white Christmas?
