What could the problem be now?

Yesterday morning whilst driving to work, when I went to accelerate/ pull away, my S60R decided to momenterally cut power. I thought it was the DSTC cutting in as I pulled away quite sharp-ish on a wet muddy road. I did not think anymore about it until I left work and come home in the evening when it got worse.

When you accelerate to approx 2.5k the car will pause and the BOV/wastegate will let off, rev a bit more, then pause, rev a bit more then pause... This happens even under light/medium throttle. I hope it is something small, like a sensor...? Any ideas?

As I am at work, my dad is so kindly going to phone up the Volvo garage to see what they say and if they can have a look at it. The car is already booked into the same garage on thursday for light knocking noise, which I think is coming from the front ARB bushes.

So what coult it be. My Volvo is starting to annoy me now with the amount of things that have gone wrong with the car since my ownership and the amount of money that has been spent on it.

    Cheers Darren

Is it an auto? Could be the clutch?

Other than that, Angle gear sounds a very likley one.

When did the box last get an oil change?

Yes the car is still under the Volvo used car warranty.
I have had the Angle gear and collar replaced,
    n/s/r bearing
    Radiator
    Power steering pump and tank

    My car is a manual. Just had a service - 96k Camblet - done early a\t 93,800miles.

The car is very hesitant when accelerating.

I was thinking that as the car does no seem to be missfireing. My last car, Impreza missfired and needed new coil pack and new HT lead. Now I am guessing that the volvo lumps aren't linked with a coil pack (sorry about my no technical language).

Each plug has it's own coilpack. Could be ETM or MAF. Could also be something daft like a pipe split or fell off even.

Yeah, I had the main "Y" pipe off the manifold split, it holds the brake cylinder hose...

    Not fun.

Could also be a dodgy boost control solenoid. I replaced mine recently as it occassionally wouldn't boost above about 6 PSI.

If it's feathering at 2.5k revs, I'd guess it's an induction issue & the engine is choking for air.

May I suggest looking at a new maf first? £20 will get you a cheap one on fleabay.

Worst case is the ETM, but if you have the warranty.... The Maf will eliminate the obvious & leave a clearer picture of what's wrong.

Do you have a diagnostics box?

My one can indicate the MAF reading while moving. May be an idea to ask to borrow the site reader?

As it's under warranty, I'd leave it to Volvo...

Thanks for all the replies. I too think it is the MAF sensor. Anyway, my dad was going to phone them up on my behave to see if the garage can look at the car sooner than Thursday when I had orignallly booked it in.

When i get home this evening I will inform you all.

Morning chaps. Sorry for the late reply to update you all, but I am a Christmas temp at John Lewis and I finish work at 9:10 and I don't really get a chance to come on the internet when I get home. The previous entries where done on the slow computers for the partners to use.

Anyway, back ono topic. The problem is apparently the Turbo control valve, what ever that is which is going to cost me £71 + vat and the knocking at the front which I thought was a arb bush, turns out to be a knocking front strut which I am not having done just yet, would cost me £430 + vat.

Oh yes, and we also have to pay for the £85 diagnostic fee...WTF!

Those parts are not covered by the warranty.

When I brought the car its had done 89,600 miles. it has now done 94,000 since end of july.

You can get an IPD uprated TCV form PFV for less than £100.

May be worth the investment... I did mine, it made the pick up much quicker.

Just remember that the car will need to re-learn the TCV & this can take about 20 mins driving & then 20mins of the car switched off for it to save the data.

Thanks for the heads up badger, but I think I will stick with the OEM item and sell the car in the new year.
