i would say on any 4wd this would be a no,no. having experience with suburu ect tyre wear cant be at different levels plays havoc with the diff trying to put the power down, dont think a volvo should be any different
i think 3mm difference is the most your meant to have between tyres on a AWD. Just ran some figures thru a tyre calculator & 215/50/17 has a diameter of 25.5", while 225/50/17 has a diameter of 25.9". Making a difference of 0.4", which is 10.16mm
so i wouldn't risk it tbh
What he said. Definately have to be the same, even Volvo bulletins say it.

If I remember correctly about the Vauxhall 4x4 system, it was even tighter, something like 1-2mm difference, they didn't even like having the spare on, it was that bad!
The easiest thing to do is if you want to run a wider tyre on the rear is to come down an aspect ratio. For instance, I run 195/65/15 on the front of my Laguna and 205/55/15 on the rear, the lower aspect ratio of the rear tyres keeps the rolling radius the same.
sorry to pick fault, but that doesn't work out. I entered your example & the 195/65/15 has a diameter of 25" & 205/55/15 has a diameter of 23.9", giving a difference of 1.1". 205/60/15 is the closest but even then there is a 0.3" difference
have a play with this LINK & see what you can get, but tbh getting different tyres within 3-4mm of each is going to be tough

so fingers crossed ive not hammered my diff, tyres have been on for over a month. gotta say this is possibly the stupidest misstake ive made thus far. the 4wd is still working ok no lights up. will it be ok? with some new even rubber. hate the thought of hurting my most dear motor
if youve damaged it you would know i think,,,really depends on your driving of late since the tyre change ect,,if shes being drove within an inch of her life then most likley wear that would lead to damage at some point,,tho easy driving i wouldnt be to concerned imo
well there's been a bit of both, gentle foreplay and a bit of good old smash it to her. fingers crossed she seems ok, and aint walking wonky. lol
AWD system is pure mechanics on the 850's matey, there won't be any lights if it fails, just some nasty noises (like when mine went hehe).

Admittedly the way I did it was to simply grab new tyres out of the stores and try them side by side until I found some that were close enough but you are right what you say that 205/60/15 is closer because I checked today and that is actually what I have got on the front not 65 section, my bad, apologies !
