    Sheared brake caliper nipple

    Anyone got any experience of getting sheared bleed nipples out of calipers? My V70 went in for a service and brake fluid change, they did three of the calipers, tried and failed on the fourth as the head of the nipple had been sheared off. Of course being a main dealer, they ran out of alloted time for the job and recommended a replacement caliper. This seems poor economy. Has anyone had any luck with screw extractors or the like? Basically the threaded part is left in the caliper body, with nothing proud of the hole.

    Drill and re-tap?? Or does that sound too easy...

    You'll need to remove the caliper from the car and place in a vice. You can then just drill it out. Start with a small drill bit and work up till it comes free. (sorry if that's teaching you how to suck eggs).
    I wouldn't attempt this thou if you have an R as the calipers are alloy and an exchange unit at the dealer. If you knacker the caliper body then it will cost you £75 surcharge and you'll still have a knackered caliper.
    Too be honest, the calipers on a non R car are not that expensive, i wouldn't bother drilling, just renew.

    As Lee said, calipers are really not that expensive (if you don't have an R) I would bother with the hassle, just replace it. Also, I'd be worried about the amount of swarf that'll be finding its way inside the caliper and behind the piston. Will only take the smallest fragment to ruin the seals and piston and you're back to square one!
