    Whats it Worth?

Need some help people valuing my 850R.
Its a Red manual estate with 104k on the clock.

    Mods are:
    -Eibach springs
    -Turbo back Longlife Custom system.
    -HLM 304 remap.
    -HKS bov
    -HIDs
    -Strut brace

It has a few bubbles on the front arches and around the rear bootlid window and stone chips and a crack in the front bumper and the main problem is the diff is knackerd in the gearbox and makes an aweful grinding noise.

Moted till October and taxed till March.

    Any ideas on value?

The value on these big and brilliant cars are shockingly low for what you get

With the problem with the diff you'd be lucky to get a grand for her

Shocking i know but its the reality.

There was a tidy 850R estate on Ebay the other day, Manual, it was black and sold for £1400, just a guide, but there wasnt anything wrong with it either.

Sorry to put a dampner on it buddy

I would say - having driven an effortless 150 motorway mile trip earlier today - that my beautiful red manual 850R is still worth every penny of the £3250 I paid for it. Mine is in pretty amazing condition it is true, but don't rely on Ebay as a selling guide - some lovely stuff goes for peanuts. Obviously the diff is a problem, but I still think it is worth fixing it up properly if you can afford it. Long term I am confident that your R will maintain if not increase in value because it is very rare, is a good colour, and low mileage. This is a specialist vehicle and as such, needs to be advertised on a specialist site like Pistinheads. Nothing sells profitably until at least March or April - so while the market is low (and the car market is currently VERY depressed) get your car sorted, hold on in there and in two or three years you will be really glad you did. And you will have enjoyed the pleasure of owning and driving it - and you can't buy that!

I would make it a nice comfy dry place in the yard then cos at that money it will be there for a while!

Sad but true, these cars have dropped big time and havent reached the 'wanted' status some peeps ever thought they would and i doubt they ever will.

Each to their own. I like the purity of the 850 - the V70 just does not look right: V70R is a nice motor, but the I like a brick to look like an honest brick, V70 is too curvy. Facelift models never work for me (yes it is a facelifted T5R I know) - just like face-lifted ex-models actually!

It was a bit over the odds, but I don't care. Wanted one for ages, and this one was exactly the one I wanted, so I got it. And it is an exceptionally nice one - as Baby Badger, and Russ at RT, will testify!

these cars are in the area of the market where IF someone wanted a good one (and Phil obviously did) then the ceiling is higher but to many it is an 850 estate with fancy wheels so they can't see what the fuss is about. Therefore the market is limited now for such a car. Ebay may not be the best place to judge a market price on but it does show trends to a degree, and when you compare PH and autotrader you do start to see a pattern emerging. Prices are suppressed, but after all it is (generally and not the car in question) a 11/12 year old estate car to most.
I wanted an estate, couldn't find one so opted for the saloon (cheaper) but would pay for the right original car (in red) but I'd like one that needs work at a cheaper figure so I can sort it out over time to costs that are in line with me.

I also had the V70R, it was really nice, sold it on here many moons back. But the 850 is different, & I agree with Phil, I like the now dated styling. But you can't help comparing the V70 to the 850R's when looking to buy and that does reflect in the prices and demand for existing 850R's.

i know what ou mean phill i hve had a 855 R and yes it is lovely and i have also been out in a P1 V70 R and it seemed to be in a different league, if i ever found one i would have a white 850 R but they are rare so would have to be a V70 R in blue

i am with FB, the only 850 which seem to fetch a good price are the gul yellow ones, but even they have dropped in price a lot now compared to what they use to sell for, i have seen R`s fetch top end premiums and have also seen them fetch nothing and thats not just on ebay thats over the whole sales market. Standard un-modified version manual or auto below 90k with extensive reciepts and fvsh are the ones that are getting top money and thats aound the £2500, its a downward spiral for the car market at the moment i am affraid, here is a clasic example my mate has just bought a 04 plate bmw 325 cs compact, forecourt prices range from £4.5k to £6.5k he has just paid £2k hmmmm nice saving and it has fbmwsh and all reciepts

The thing is, even if these cars lose half or three quarters of their value in two years, you haven't lost more than about 2 months depriciation on just about any new ecobox. So I console myself with that!

A few years back I disposed of my last and loveliest 1967 Hillman Imp - significantly modded, lowered, decambered, 998cc, R15 cam, 4-spoke Revolutions, cross the back silencer etc. I gave it to a friend - it being worth virtually nothing at the time. Now, this car would easily sell for at least ten times that much, so every dog (and it was sometimes) has it's day!

The used market is depressed, but it ALWAYS swings back. Witness the modded Ford Anglia up for £18,000 on Pistonheads at present. Granted you might have to wait a few years for this to happen to your tasty 850R etc...

Strange thing is when I was looking for an 855R I couldn't find a good one for 18 months, and I was looking on this and other forums.I suppose it's like painting in that respect, you pay what YOU think it's worth[that said,I wouldn't put "sunflowers' on my wall even if you gave it to me],and like Flatout Phil,I too paid top money but have enjoyed the car and still do.I do think that if looked after, and as they become rarer and scrappage may help here, that they will appreciate,it's still a lot of car for the money imho
