IIRC it stands for Racing, Anybody ?

Stuff they have over the T5 would be, lowered by 20mm, 240bhp auto and 250 manual, Half and half interior ( Alacantra ) front splitter, lsd ?, i think they have stronger anti roll bars as well, someone will be along shortly to verify

R does indeed stand for Racing version.

Its a slightly more hardcore version than the T5's with alot of them having 300bhp as standard, and generally better, bigger brakes, stiffer and shortened suspension and a more roarty exhaust note. Few extras too, regarding spoilers, skirts, interior trim.

    I thought the R came in 240bhp ( auto ) and 250bhp ( manual )

The newer V70R P2's have 300bhp as standard

I think you might be right there regarding the P1's although there seem to be an awful lot of saloon 850 R's with 300 swedish moose's

haha delboy? yeh its just the newer R's that have 300 standard - but like you say there is so much potential for them to get to this on older breeds - just look at Yellow Peril - thats a bit of a beast!!

The " Trotters " Dont remap their T5's

They upgrade the suspension for the diesel suspension for all the weight of the gear they haul and upgrade the brakes.

I thought it was "aRse". I had an aRse estate before the C70.

    - as in "Does my aRse look big in this"

Now that they have stopped doing it - you can only get aRse Design.

    Wink

The question of what "R" stands for has been asked quite a few times here and on other forums. Many people think that the R stands for racing, however it may stand for "Refined".......

As IC said, I've also heard it stands for refined. With all the extras these cars came with as standard, it wouldn't surprise me either.

Mainly correct. The upholstery is reversed compared to a T5-R; the front bumper is unique; TRACS is std (but only works upto 25mph); the suspension is different - thinner antiroll bars (yes thinner), firmer springs, softer dampers; pretty much all the extras as std - electric memory seats, sunroof, climate control...

The auto is the poor relation sadly - it has T5-R injectors, 15G turbo, and runs a slightly lower boost (albeit higher than a T5-R). The manual car gets larger injectors, a 16T turbo and higher boost, hence 250bhp.
    Currently - '96 850R auto

    Previously - '97 S70 T5 manual, '98 V70R AWD auto, '98 V70R Auto in Nautic Blue Mica with LPG (went to Germany!), 1996 850R Auto, lots of various 940s, 960s and a crappy 850 2.0
