centre air vent sounds like a good place to put it, at least it will be easy to read. How about the top air vent on the drivers side?

I had the top air vents removed from the C70 and my mates company started on fitting three gauges into the twin air vents but I sold the car before they were finished.

You can also get stand alone pods that sit ontop of the dash. Parts for volvo online have'em.
