    how much room?

so one of the reasons i bought the s70 is i needed a larger family wagon and i thought this was one of the best options!

This week end i have taken the family away.... me the misses and the babe (4 months old) and the misses has packed the whole house..... pretty much yeah the whole house! Managed to get almost all of it in the back of the s70 and it got me wondering... is there much difference between the 850/v70/s70 luggage wise? obviously the space upwards (if you get what i mean?) but with people in the car i wouldn't go above seat height any way... just wondered in case we have any more kids as we will definately need a trailer and roof box!!! LOL!

Not quite sure what your getting at mate. You can't compare an S70 to a V70...there worlds apart. With the seats down in a V70 it's something like 1635cu/l where as the S70 is less than half that. The 850 and P1 V70 are exactly the same, as are the 850 saloon and S70.

And in the estate models there is the cargo nets which would allow you to fill to the roof lining without anything falling forward when braking.

You can't beat cubes - well, cubic feet...

I am sure Flying Fridge Mover would agree, you need to get a fridge/settee in the back. In practical terms, when the kids were little, we could get all their stuff in the boot and still not need a roofbox. Now they are older, you can get on the one hand, six kids safely in the car. On the other, two small bikes in the boot, or a huge load of shopping, or with roof-rails, my old favourite, anything from IKEA, or sheets of 8x4, with no struggle at all. Nothing this side of a Volvo 940 is better than an 855!
And finally, yes the 850/V70 are thirsty - but I regard the extra money as a kind of insurance premium on the family (Volvo talk is this!) because, no matter what NCAP ratings may suggest, the inherent built in safety, internal space, mass and solidity of this car will protect the family better than most other vehicles when it comes to the average crunch. And yes, I have seen the fifth gear 940 crash video - earlier generation design. And I can't afford a brand new Volvo etc!
    KISS Rs

850R manual, Rica 310, IKEA fitted bathroom, H&C running water, Jetex 2.5", pipe rack, cap stand, Forge BOV, circular wheels with full 360 degree rotation, 302mm discs, IPD front and rear anti-roll bars, numerous shiny features, sub-atomic particle accelerator, VTOL capability ...Volvo With Attitude!!!
Also to be seen in a gold Honda CR-V these days...
