Strange Ticky Weird Noise

I noticed this a few weeks back, but since then it's happening more often, and possibly getting a bit louder.

When the car's sat ticking over, this tick-tick-tick noise comes from nowhere, lasts about 4 or 5 seconds, then goes away. It sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger side of the engine, but as it only lasts for a couple of seconds, it's very hard to pinpoint exactly where it is.

Has anyone else had this?

Even had her at the garage I use and my mechanic there said he'd noticed it, but didn't have a clue what it is....

Sticky Tappet

Thats what mine does, very annoying but a bit of hydraulic lifter cleaner or forte and it goes for a couple of months

sticky tappet symdrome!give it a good oil change, somethings it can be the strainer getting blocked up..

Thanks lads.... you've just made my weekend..... I've had the reverse midas touch with cars for the last few weeks, and we're away to great yarmouth in a couple of weeks....
