    Location of ABS Sensors

Hi all, back again with the ABS lights!!!!. Sorted the ABS module and fitted the LEDs to the dash, everything has been fine for a few months now we start again.

On start up lights on then turn off (ABS and STC). As soon as I hit 15mph both lights flash up and stay lit. Additional to this on some occasions they dont light up then I hit a bump in the road and they come on.

Can anyone tell me where the whell sensors are so I can fix them?

    cheers

Here's the sensor connection just above the socket/ratchet.

Sounds like a loose wire, not a dud sensor.

The car should use the ABS sensors to gauge the reading on the speedo.

I'd personally seek advice from a mechanic, as if it goes wrong, things will go very badly wrong. I'd be worried about breaking something dear & having to wait to repair it.

When you start the car the system self checks and the lights should go out,as they are going out on your car this rules out the sensors, when you hit 15mph it self checks again and on your motor this is when the lights are coming on which would suggest that a rotational part is at fault. Most likely culprit is going to be one of the toothed abs rings, these are what the sensors read and use to detect when a wheel has started to lock and skid.If there is an excessive build up of corrosion in the teeth or acrack on one of the rings this will be the problem.Front rings are more common to give trouble as they are exposed to the elements(on the driveshaft) wheras the rears are inside the disc and more protected.
    Hope this helps,Adam.

Any ideas on how much the front rotational discs would cost?

The abs rings are about £27 each from volvo i think, rufe will be able to give you a precise quote but you do need to inspect them first,if they are cracked then they will have to be renewed but if it is just corrosion then a wire brush may well save you time and money.

Yeah, then you have to heat them up and slide 'em into place on the drive shaft...alot of messing about! It's cheaper just to buy a new driveshaft. £63 ...by the time you factor in all the mucking about trying to get them in the correct place + labour etc etc.

One of my abs rings cracked and it was cheaper to just replace the drive shaft than the abs ring!
