Can I build my own T5???

Ok this my be stupid but some of you guys will know what I'm like. My V70 is one of those cars, I actually really like it alot, but havin a T5 previous its a bit disapointing that I don't have a T5 engine in there. So heres my big plan (possibly lol) I spoke with a couple of guys briefly today and they both think that my plan should be quite possible. Here goes, my V70 has a 2.4 10valve (as you know). I have a 20valve head from my old 93 T5, I reckon as the engines are virtually identical I could swap the head over. I know Volvo did have a 2.4 T5 in the V70 (although maybe only the P2 model). Anyway if I then added a hpt with all the pipes and so on (O' yeah and the ECU) would I in essence be converting my 10 valve to a T5? This all seems very possible in my head but have I missed anything? I know I could buy a T5 engine and slot it in but I'd rather avoid that if I could. What sort of expense am I looking, taken into account I have the head and if I bought a second hand Turbo and turbo bits (obviously from one of you guys who I can trust). Then going for a second hand ECU and mapping it. I'd be happy with 300 to 350 brake. So possible or just crazy???

Its just the V70 2.5 10 valve SE, pictured here with the 2 people that make life worth living, my babies.

more work and more expense than a swap to a T5 engine.... But sayin that, buying a complete T5 is probably the cheapest option these days...

Check the compression ratios of the 2.4 vs the 2.3 T5 engine - I'd doubt they are the same?

Your message says 2.4 but your sig says 2.5 incidentally?

I would personally put this idea in the same bucket as "get a date with Marilyn Monroe by next Thursday", with which it competes for viability. Just my opinion and don't let it stop you!

Quite a few of the blocks and head combos over different model engine codes can be done. I wouldn't attempt it with yours though and just buy a second hand 850 T5 or early V70 T5 and use that car as a donor. You don't need a spotless example but one with a good engine. They can be had very cheaply at the minute if you have a good look around.

I would have thought that should be quite easy - I mean, it isn't like she is going to be up to very much otherwise? Probably need feeding up a bit too.

Yeah, easier to get a T5 engine and bang it in, perhaps do some mods on it while its out.

wont you end up with too much commpresion ? be b****y fast for about ten miles. go for the full engine swap, tryed to do a similar sort of thing with a audi 90 quattro once, too much hassle and too many little side effect problems.

Thanks guys I knew it wouldn't be that simple lol. I might just map it after christmas and then look for a mint example T5R or R. It was a nice idea but don't want to waste the time fiddling but at the same time don't want to change the engine as its a good one thats in her. As for the 2.4, 2.5 thing, its badged as a 2.5 and they were sold as a 2.5 10valve but they are in fact only a 2.4. I don't know why tbh but thats what they done. Suppose a bit like BMW's 1.8 316.
