V70R Problems - Need Advice Please

    Hi guys & gals,

I am looking for some advice from you regarding probably the worst mistake i have ever made in car buying!!

I wont bore you with the full story but having previously owned 2 850 T5's I fancied a change and spotted a 1998 V70R on Ebay, guy seemed genuine enough so I traveled, with a friend, to see the car having agreed a VERY decent price (not so cheap now!!) and having taken it for a drive and looked and listened to everything all seemed fairly well and i parted with my cash.
On the drive home the Lamda light came on (and is still on) but this did not bother me too much as the 850 I owned before this did exactly the same thing. I got the car home with no issues and although there were a few bits that needed doing I was generally happy with the car.
Within a few weeks this turned into despair as problem after problem kept happening and I was having to spend a fair bit of money on it!!
To date I have spent out on the following:

Cat Back Jetex Exhaust (old exhaust had Cat pieces in it - see below)
    Work on Cat (see below)
    Front Wishbones
    Suspension Arm Links
    Engine/Hydraulic Flush (tappets were noisy)
Some other work i cannot remember!!

I am now at the stage where I doubt it will pass its MOT as there was a problem with the Cat disintergrating so my local mechanic cut a slot and removed all the loose pieces thus leaving me with half a Cat!!
The Lamda light is still on and now the Auto Transmission Light on the dash is flashing and the codes are:
    29 - Transmission Control
332 - Lockup Solonoid Open Curcuit

So all in all I am at my wits end with this car and not really prepared to spend another penny on it.

So I suppose my question is would there be anyone interested in buying this car as a whole from me for either a project or spares etc or do I sell it off in pieces (wheels, exhaust, interior, panels etc) and try and recoup some money that way??

The car is showing 265k on the clock but the engine has been changed and has done around 165k also the auto box has been recon'd around a year ago, both of which i have paperwork for. The aircon unit is missing too!!

Your advice would be appreciated into what I do with this car, sorry for the essay too!!!

    Sean

Do you know what mate, things like this always happen to me, how long have you owned the car? If this is a really recent purchase then you might possibly have some comebacks.
Good luck anyway with what you do, I would buy it if I had the money as a project but my missus would kill me.

Thanks Phil, I bought this about 6 months ago so doubt there can be any comeback as it was sold as seen!!

To be honest the car still runs and drives quite nicely, although i dont drive it now as the tax & MOT have expired, but i just know that i cannot be throwing anymore money at it!!

why dont you just try and repair it from a scrapyard and then sell it as working, you will recoup more money that way.
I have a friend that has a scrappy, Ill see if he has a cat going cheap, Ill pm you if he has if your interested anyway.

Sorry things haven't worked out with this one - I think we have all purchased at least one "bad un" in our time though.

With the mileage and this issues (inc no MOT or tax) it isn't going to be worth much as a whole - however if you just want it out of your sight so you can move on this might be the better option.

The old girl is definately worth more in bits

Thanks Mrsmopp, I thought it would be worth more to me in bits than trying to move it on. I just need to find somewhere to store it while it gets stripped!!

I am NOT mechanically minded in any way, shape or form so looks like a job for my bro-in-law ;-)

I will post in the forum, at some point soon, as i would rather you guys get 1st call on it rather than those on Ebay!!

Do you think it might be worth more if i finally get round to putting the 'VPCUK' sticker in the window LOL

`HI Mate definitely break it, put some pics up of the car, so people can see the colour and the colour of the interior, if it is Black with Beige interior then some people will get upset lol,

shame it's an auto as they only had the 16t on them,

how much did you pay for her? you will have no probs shifting the wheels, interior and the cat back,

with that mileage i wouldn't even of bothered going to have a look at it, but as Moppy has said we all have bought a ****ter at some stage of car ownership,

    Gary.

I would be interested in the wishbones and the droplinks.

I think as all with all the other comments break her if you want the cash, you would be lucky to get 1k for a broken high mileage model.

Realistically if the parts you can sell are good you can make 1k:
    Alloys £300-400
    Both Bumpers £200+

    etc etc

    Question

Hi, My name is Terry Tibbs, I'll give you 50 Big Ones for it!
    Talk To Me!!!!!
    Sorry could'nt resist!
It's a pitty you got shafted with this car m8 as it looked not too bad from pictures.
We've all bought one at some point, it's just a pitty that it is one of the more desireable models this time!
You'll get more cash breaking it, but it's up to you if you persevere with it and get it up to scratch.
Your call, personally i've done the latter many times, all the best with it whatever you decide!

I know how it feels to buy a duff car see my threads on Christine. If you don't have the money to fork out for repairs then maybe it's the best route to take and sell her for parts.

    Those wheels look nice
