    Question T5

Seems I'm the first to post on here!! A q for anyone that knows...Am I right in thinking that the 30/40/50 series cars are now the only T5s in the range? Also I believe they are the least powerful ones yet......True??

No idea Alan, but one of my customers has a C30 R-Design T5 so I'll be asking him all about it the next time I see him.

His wife works for a law firm that handles all volvo's affairs and he got 25% off the price, which I think was in addition to the good deal he'd already negociated with the supplying dealer. All in all I think he got quite a bargain.

A mate of mine is a car dealer, who tends to specialise in quick interesting motors and recently took a C30 T5 in part ex.

He told me that around town, in point and squirt mode it was very entertaining.

Unfortunately he traded it before I could get my sticky hands on it.

There is still a C70 T5. All the others are T6's. I think all the T5's come with about 230BHP as opposed to the standard 250+ they used to have :-(
    God loves a tweaker though!

All because of emissions control...How gay!

ive just sold my S40 T5, that was around 225bhp, compared to my previous volvos, (C70 T5 & V70 T5) The S40 was the quickest i must admit, bigger engine with a smaller turbo, it was more "driveable" through the revs as you didnt really notice any turbo-lag. plus its a lighter car than my previous volvo's, so that helps! lol

If ford can get 300bhp from this engine, im sure it wouldnt involve much for us to do the same?? I mean, the S60 R & V70 R, both 2.5's with 300bhp with an "older" version of this engine!

Yes a valid point but ford being the parent company, they can't have the stereotypical 'old mans car'' volvo (yes i know the new volvo is vastly superior and has a newer cooler image) running faster and better than the focus.... I'd love to get my hands on the C30 t5 and go to town with the engine etc just to upset the RS owners if it were possible...I think there is a company that has already had the 2.5 t5 focus lump up to 350-400 reliable bhp too sounds like fun to me!!

You have to remember T5 stands for Turbo 5 clylinder so they kinda had to drop the T4 and they cant use it on the V70 as its a V6. Kinda crap I know but they didnt think twice about droping the true R brand. Modern T5's are wet (as standard) totally under powerd compared to todays market, the C70 T5 only has 227 bhp thats only 2 more than a 14 year old 850
    Thanks

The S40 T5 would of course be quicker than it's heavier big brother (V70 T5) and the Very heavy C70. Also the S40 had a radically different chassis, alot stiffer and agile than the later mentioned. What a shame Volvo dropped the 'R' brand. I would have loved them to develop a proper S40R not a crappy R design with all it's ECO friendly rubbish. If you want ECO, buy a polo or a Kia pride. Can you imagine...How good the new S40 would have been if it were a proper S40R AWD!!! AWESOME!! 300bhp etc etc. Would have been lighter and smaller than the S60R, therefore so much more fun!!

My thoughts exactly! The chassis on the new S40 would be more than able to cope with the extra bhp! especially in AWD, its a shame they concentrated on the driveE cars rather than the R's

they're going back a few steps in my opinion to being an old mans car if they keep going on about emissions and mpg... in all fairnes, something every car company should be thinking about.. But they shouldnt forget, its cars like the T5's, T4's and R's that transformed volvo from and old man sunday drivers car, to what they are (or were) today! lol

My Dad's V50 T5 is the most unreliable bit of useless garbage ever! I liked it... for a week... then the ECU light came on, restricted the power, got it fixed... 2 days later the drivers window fell into the door... then the turbo stopped boosting... was ok for about 3 months then the turbo went again... the radio started randomly cutting out... Then about 6 months ago the rear passengers side window fell into the door (Yet to be fixed)... the drivers side door rattles, the passengers side door knocks and the CAT collapsed on it last tuesday and It started misfiring this morning

Took the words out of my mouth. Well said that man! May you speak for the nation of 'proper' Volvo drivers...namely, T4/T5/T5-R/850R/V70R/S60R. (have i missed any?
