    Auto Box Problems

Hi sorry for the question i am sure this has been asked many times before but i cant find an answer anywhere in the forums.
I have a 2000 V70 T5 Auto and i think my auto box is about to die, it seems to randomly slip, like a missed gear and the revs soar , then the gear selects and off it goes ok.
Also downchanges can be very rough and can make a load clunk, is this normal ?
My previous T5 was manual so i cant tell.
    Thanks

First thing to check is the automatic tranmission fluid. Pull the dipstick in the engine is the fluid brown ? give it a smell is it smell burnt?

Does the car or has the car had a towing history ?

if yes to any of the above then consider changing the ATF and then adding an additional cooler - threads on both on the forum.

If no then could be the box or one of the components might be on the way out. Depending on where you are in the world depends on who you should go to to get it checked out....

WobblyDave on this forum knows a fair bit about these boxes so no doubt he will comment.

    Thanks for quick reply

Hi i have checked fluid and level is ok, no burnt smell or anything.
    Fluid colour is also ok.
Also no towing history as no towbar or evidence one has been ever fitted.

If it's slipping it could be the torque converter which I understand is the automatics version of a cluth or part therof.

Diagnosis by forum is tricky. AT boxes are tricky things. Could be TC, could be a faulty kick down switch. If the problem persists seek professional advice - autobox specialist ideally.
