    home made fault code reader

    where have i gone wrong i have made one up as per the intrustions given here

    however when the wire is inserted into port 16 and port 3 with the ingintion off the led is not lit the only way i can get the led to light is by putting the 3rd wire into port 5 and then its just on all the time even with the igintion on so where am i going wrong somebody please help.

    i had jip with mine.sure you just touch 5 against one of the wires quickly then wait a bit and it starts flashing.

    i cant get the light to iluminate to start with let alone get to the point of reading codes or isnt it mean to?

    maybe im not understanding what you mean steve but from what the instrutions tell me the led should come on with the igintion off and the wires put into ports 3 and 16 this is not the case on mine it will not light up

    Almost, you need the ignition on,wires in port 3 and 16 connected to your LED, then another in port 5, you then touch the one from port 5 to the wire in port 3 for a few seconds, this should then start reading out the fault codes..

    ok so it doesnt need to be lit up with the ignition off then like it says in the intrustions in the link above will work anyway

    From memory when I last did it, (I used a multi meter not an LED) you did need the ignition on.

    Previously - '97 S70 T5 manual, '98 V70R AWD auto, '98 V70R Auto in Nautic Blue Mica with LPG (went to Germany!), 1996 850R Auto, lots of various 940s, 960s and a crappy 850 2.0
