    t5 gearbox problem!! 2.3engine

    can any1 help

my t5 is having a crunching time when moving into 3rd gear!!, i took it to the local garage and it was said the synchro is blah blah blah!!

is this a replacement box or is it a cheap fix?

also if i was to replace the gearbox does the 2.5 box fit straight on or is it the 2.3?

If I were you buddy,I'd bite Shaun's hand off for that. The repair would be uneconomical and time consuming. The 2.5 has a lower final drive/lower ratios so is not the same and personally,I wouldn't..

if you dont have shauns gearbox is might be worth putting a 2.0 20v box in it will drop the top end but quicker off the mark due to the larger final drive and they are pretty cheap just an idea mind

very true but i know the 2.0 20v goes very well because don off kalimar put 1 in his s70 t5 that he used to race and i bolted a 2.5 20v engine to 1 in my mk1 2.0 20v and that went very well

the ST box has got a lower 1st & 2nd than the M56H, but higher than the M56L. The M56L then has a higher ratio than the M66 for the remaining gears

I don't think the 2.5l necessarily has a lower final drive. The 10v one is I think the M56L so will have, but the 2.5l 20V M56H gearbox I put on my 850 had the same final ratio I believe.

Agree that the cost of refurbishing the innards of your box is likely to exceed the cost of a replacement box so unless you wanted to build up a gearbox anyway I'd replace rather than repair.

it will fit. But later 850's had the speed measured off the ABS unit while earlier ones had the sensor mounted into the gearbox, just need to see which you've got
